Hey all,

First off, happy new years.

So, here is the abridged version: I accidentally partitioned my external hard drive. This forced me to use a data recovery system (Disk Drill), which recovered everything. However, the problem is that about 30% of the AF100 footage recovered seems to be corrupt and unplayable. I have priceless segments for a documentary I am doing that I cannot access and it's really making me worried.

Has anyone done this before and found a way to fix the files? If not, can anyone help?

1 tb hard drives cost about $100-$130 in the near future I suggest you buy at least two of them and back up your data. You would think that by you owning an expensive camera you would have at least 2 backup systems for your hard drive......

Other than that sorry to hear what happened, I know some places can recover information but it is very expensive...... Would you still happen to have the data on the memory cards you recorded too? Other than that, good luck.

Did your recovery process ..recover the AVCHD Folder structure?

Maybe the AVCHD Recovery software may work for you.

(Back it up somewhere first and then try one folder only)

I have never done this so take the suggestion with a degree of caution ...and a lot of best wishes.

Can you view the MTS files directly in something like VLC? If so, try something else to transcode.

I tried VLC, but the second it tries reading the file, the application crashes.

Also, in regards to backing things up, I was actually setting up my new backup drive and accidentally partitioned the wrong drive. Irony, right? -_-

Just to be safe whenever I set up a new drive I turn off all other drives so that I can't accidentally format the wrong drive.

The best thing to do is turn off the drive and send it to a reputable data recovery expert. The more you mess with the drive the less chance you have of recovering the data. Here in London I use a company that charges £400 per terabyte recovered. He's only failed in recovering data once and that was due to a drive that was physically damaged.

I've also had fantastic luck with Data Rescue 3. Been able to save the info from 2 different 2TB drives that crashed on me. Oddly though, while i was only recovering 500GB of data off one of the drives, it needed 3.5 TB for the recovery. After weeding through a bunch of duplicated files, I got back to the 500GB that were originally lost.

I have a lacie rugged drive from a few years ago when I was in school.

It crashed a year or two ago, when I plug it in, it's unrecognized by the computer, I hear a little beeping noise from the drive itself in addition to the drive movement.

I've been waiting for data recovery to get a bit more manageable price wise before sending it out for recovery.

It's a bunch of school projects that I didn't have backed up, not vital monetarily important stuff, but stuff I'd like to have back regardless.

Definitely interested in hearing your guys opinions on services out there. I have no clue really

You might try pulling out the actual hard drive, & putting it in another housing. Sometimes it's just a controller gone bad.

I accidently did not copy all files from my card, formatted it and recorded on it before I found out i did not have the money shot.

I did recover my shoot but only the raw video and audio is there, no metadata, frame size and duration. WMP and PowerDVD can play the video and audio perfectly but not see how long the clip is.
Premiere is just a mess, interprets everything wrong..
With what do a remaster the data in the clip?

I can play the entire clip on my WDTV so I need to record the HD-signal from the WDTV.
The intensity Pro card totally and utterly refuses to recognize the signal from the WDTV and my Bluray player..
On both HDMI and Component signal

I solved it,
After formating the card, recording new clips on it I scanned it with GetData (recomended software!)
Extracted the file, played it with my WDTV through composit onto Intesity Pro and Media Express.

And now I'm editing it as usual.
