Loss of quality question

Ok so this may be a stupid question and im pretty sure i know the answer already but it never hurts to make sure. If I record using the Dvx onto a mini dv tape then put the mini dv tape into a consumer low quality camera to import footage into premiere pro will there be a loss of quality, or like I assume is all the quality held in the tape itself and it wont matter what i use to import the footage? hopefully that made sense. Dvx to mini-dv to consumer camera to preimere pro.

Hey Tippsy---I've been doin the same thing and haven't noticed any change in quality. I have noticed change in quality though when I export from final cut express using quicktime conversion. It is definitely better in my opinion to use a consumer camera to import your footage cuz usin your dvx to do it could damage the camera. At least if you use it often anyway. Hope I've helped a lil bit. Just my experience : )

There is no loss of quality. Once it is recorded, DV is DV. A lot of people, myself included, do exactly what you describe. I shoot on the DVX100B and then use an old Sony DCR-TRV22 to capture with.

One thing to keep in mind, though, is that you won't always be able to print-to-tape back to the same camcorder you captured with once you've edited. That all depends on the camcorder's features and your NLE settings.
