Loss of quality HD-DV?

Is there a difference in quality in shooting on the HVX to P2 cards VERSUS HD mini DV tape?

If we shoot to HD mini DV, do we need an HD deck to import to FCP 5 (HD. This is for a web commercial, not for TV broadcast.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

The HVX does not shoot HD to tape. You would need an HDV camera for that. The HVX shoots DVCPROHD, DVCPRO50 and DVCPRO to P2 and DV to tape. The benefit of shooting DVCPROHD is you get 100mbps and 4:2:2 color space. You get neither when shooting with an HDV camera.

To be completely clear ... The HVX shoots HD only to P2 cards and FireStore Drives. If you are using the tape drive on the HVX you are shooting DV.

DVCProHD = HD | DVCPro50 = SD | DVCPro = DV
