Losing faith in humanity, one Judge Judy episode at a time...

So I came to a realization this afternoon. Every day at work, our lead in to the 5pm news is two episodes of Judge Judy. Since I'm in the studio, it's usually on in the air monitors.

I have never seen a re-run.

I'm not saying there isn't any, I've just never seen them. This caused me to do a little math. There are two cases an episode, two episodes a day. 5 days a week, 52 weeks a year.

There are two parties to every case. That means there are a minimum of 4 people an episode. That makes 8 people a day. 40 people a week. 2080 people a year. BUT, usually there are more than two people per case, as the parties are often made up of 1 v. 2, 2 v. 3, 2 v. 2, etc. Let's just say the average is 2 v. 2... that means there are 4160 people a year.

This means that realistically, there are between 4,000 and 4,500 people who every year are willing to go on Judge Judy and make themselves look like absolute buffoons while she berates them.

Food for thought.

You know what will really fry your noodle? Check out what Judge Judy MAKES in a year... get ready to be blown away. I won't quote it here... google it... and get ready to catch your eyes as they pop out of your head.

My dad watches JJ all the time... and I beg him not to... because all he does is ***** at how stupid everybody and everything is... and meanwhile he bastes in that sh*t for an hour every day. No wonder he's got such a bad attitude... I'm just sayin'... if you want to wish for the black hole sun, just keep watching Judge Judy and you'll wish for something to wipe the planet clean.

The truly depressing thing is that she goes head to head with Oprah and most days she wins. In Seattle. A supposedly more "sophisticated" market (yeah, right).

As to her salary... ummm... yeah... she renegotiated her contract I read to $45M. Whether that's per year or total doesn't really matter. For that kind of money, you'd think she'd be in a better mood more often.

DOOOOD....I had a job editing Judge Judy promos for a while. After the 40th in a row I wanted to hang myself. Luckily, I got other work as that was freelance.

I cut off cable three years ago, haven't watched a TV program since. On the occasions it's on at my moms house when I visit I make her turn it off. It insults the intelligence of even a idiot like myself.
I never thought I'd live to see the day when I'd say "you know maybe Geraldo wasn't that bad...."

If TV is any indication, humanity is nearing the end.

Yes, but I'd rather feel stupider from watching Jeopardy than have my IQ actually drop a few points from watching JJ :)

Brilliant statement right there.

Watching Jeopardy only makes you feel stupid... and even then you should retain some of the info on the show... I can usually answer at least half the questions anyway :)

I sometimes tell myself that I should go on the show... but I don't think it would be quite as easy with the added pressure vs. sitting by myself on the couch ;)

I dunno. Any time I'm really feeling like a doofus, I can cheer myself up remembering that at least I'm not a Judge Judy plaintiff or respondent...
