Loose LCD screen - Broke.

I let a friend borrow my DVX for a wedding shoot and when I got it back the LCD is very loose.

It still works and all, but it has tottaly lost its firmess and resistance and is very flimsey. And You know how the LCD is supposed to click in the middle when making a 180 deg. rottation? Now it almost falls down on its own. Very loose and wiggly/ Flimmsy even.

It is just very disconcerning cause I took such good care of it for over 16 months. I clean and pollish that thing like a trophey. ..

I think he tried to open it and rottate it at the same time very fast and broke it. Or maybe he tried to rottate it past 180 degs. Or maybe he knocked it into something. I dont really want to blast him on it.

So what can I do to try to fix it?
What is it that makes the resistance?

Re: Loose LCD screen - Broke.

um, you politely, yet firmly TELL your friend to have it fixed.

Re: Loose LCD screen - Broke.

Make sure that there aren't any loose screws.

There very well could be just a loose screw that you need to tighten again.

Re: Loose LCD screen - Broke.

I gotta go with Rich on this one. Your friend needs to have it fixed. If it isn't a loose screw, that is.

#1. don't loan out your camera.

#2. make it clear if you are so stupid to loan out your camera that if anything happens to it the person will be responsible for any damage.

#3. find your nearest panasonic repair center, these guys are REALLY good and they can probably fix it for very little $$$

That's a bit harsh. I wouldn't go so far as to call it stupid. However I'll bet that Billy has learned a valuable lesson. (That last line sounds like something out of a 70's birth control school movie.)

Re: Loose LCD screen - Broke.

yeah i guess it was harsh, i guess i was just thinking it was wrong for the question to get this far, his friend should have admitted he jammed the thing either by hand or walked into a doorway with the screen and bent it backwards.

i just learned a long time ago that my idea of borrowing something is that if you break or destroy it you repair/replace it, and a lot of people don't have that concept.

that and i was sort of kidding in my cynical way.

Cynical? What's that mean? And what's this sarcasm thing everyone says happens on this site? ;)

Seriously though, I agree, if you break it, fess up to it, and fix it.

Re: Loose LCD screen - Broke.

If you're old enough to be able to afford the price of a DVX, you're old enough to be responsible for you decisions.
If the offer to repair didn't come with the return of the camera, it won't come now.

The repair isn't hard, but not something to do yourself.

A lesson learned.

matthew, lighten up....
