loose front end?

i am curious if this is a problem only with my camera or if it is consistent with other users. just take off your lens hood and grab the bayonet mount tabs directly in front of the focus ring. now wiggle it back and forth or side to side. is there any play in this part of the camera for you guys? i have a dvx100 by the way.

Re: loose front end?

did anyone check and see if this problem occurs in their dvx's?? it worries me because any bayonet mounted lens adapters might shake when mounted.
i'd appreciate it if at least a few poeple just checked to see if this is an abnormal thing or if it is like this on all people's cameras.

Re: loose front end?

hey man i just checked on mine and there doesnt seem to any play at all. maybe a few other people can check to make sure we are all talking about the same thing.

Re: loose front end?

thanks for checking man. do you have the 100 or 100a?
upon further looking at it, the front end wiggles side to side (same axis of rotation as if you were screwing on a filter) and not back and forth.

Re: loose front end?

I get a tiny bit of play and a squeek sound a bit like styofoam. I don't want to wiggle too much as mine just came back from surgery cos I dropped it on its lens and it had major wiglies

Re: loose front end?

I believe (based on a very early DVX100 we tested) that the lens is held to the main camera body by 3 screws. The early sample had a lot of play (one of the screws appeared to be stripped) and caused us to worry about attaching heavy lens accessories to the camera without some sort of support.

After talking to Panasonic and then buying a brand new camera, which we have used 100's if not 1000's of times to test the fit and function of accessories and demo them at trade shows our camera is still fine. I would urge caution tho as it is a potentional weak point in my opinion.

Re: loose front end?

thanks bill for the warning. coincidentally i was looking at your ultra fisheye adapter to use with it. it being a little over a pound though, i am a bit worried about this potential issue.
are these screws you speak of internally hidden? or are they just something i can tighten down myself? hopefully the answer is the latter of the two...
