Looping my finished project?

I was shooting a big event today and a friend of mine was a vendor there. He told me he would play my demo reel on his 42 inch plasma for everyone to see when they walked pass his booth. The only thing is that he had to keep pressing play on the DVD player when it ended. What can I do to have it loop over and over again by itself? Will this work on a DVD?

Re: Looping my finished project?

Depending what you're using for DVD authoring, you would simply set the movie's end-action to play itself.  This would put it into an infinite loop.

Any mid to pro-level authoring app would have this feature. If you're using something like iDVD, then I have no idea :)

Re: Looping my finished project?

If you have iDVD 4 then you can loop the movie. If you don't it might just be worth upgrading because it has a better compression setting.

If you do have it though. Click on the map view button in the bottom-right corner of the window. Then if you notice the first box should say "Drag content here to automatically play when the disc is inserted" so, drag your movie file there. Then click on that box to select it and then go to the "Advanced" menu at the top of the screen. And select "loop movie". That's it!! So you should be able to preview it and make sure it's all set right. Although i have never previewed it for a loop movie. But that should solve your problem.

Also, if you get iDVD 4 just know that it does take a lot longer to compress your movie files. It's no longer less than total movie time. Now it is longer than your movie, but it is much better quality and you can fit up to 2 hours in best quality mode.

Hope this works for you.

Re: Looping my finished project?

Okay I just looked this up in the FCP book, and I see that I can loop my project as many times as I want in the PRINT TO VIDEO option. Now what about just copying all tracks in FCP and then pasting them at the end of the first one so it will loop right there in the timeline and keep doing that for how many ever loops I want? Would that work as well if my output is DVD? I still have iDVD3.

Re: Looping my finished project?

Someone on another forum gave me a great idea! I can just use my set top DVD player and set it to repeat with A-B repeat option. Not all DVD players have this option but I checked mine and its on there.

Re: Looping my finished project?

Yes copying all the tracks would work fine. I would suggest actually creating another sequence and then dragging your other sequence into it a few times. You can fit up to an hour at the better quality in iDVD 3. If you go over 60 minutes then it compresses at a lower quality.

When you have a chance i would get iLife 04. the new version of iDVD does great stuff. I was going to get DVD Studio Pro. But with the new iDVD I can do just about everything i want to do for now. Including having an opening video before the menu comes up, and looping of any video. As well as other things. And I always design a background menu video in Final Cut, or a still background in Photoshop. It's flexible enough for me.
