Looking to start Orlando , FL group...you out there?

I have a projector and a conference room and am located near full sail.

Thanks for offering, what amount of people can pack into the conference room?

I also am open to library/dennys what not...

Also always open to a local bar for beers while conversing... Downtown Orlando has a few good ones that host other meetings...

I feel it will be useful if folks get together and introduce to each other, this kind of meeting will always be welcome if everyone is reasonable and professional to each other. I have a HMC150 and a consumer-level HDV camera.

Yep... so someone take the horns and run with it. If there's a co-op type operation then it's beneficial... and its also a way to get to know who would be available for hire.. what gear there is to rent.... that kind of thing. I'm always looking to collaborate with professionals and I have quite a lot of equipment... cheers and I'm down for getting together.. towards the middle or end of the month. I think that momentum needs to happen... then maybe a website.. newletter and viola.. cheers.

I'm afraid I can't commit to a monthly meeting. I live in the sticks and the commute to O-town is a bit lengthy.

If you're looking into one or two day projects on a weekend, that's something I would be interested in.

Sounds good all, even the weekend kinda deal once it gets rolling.

Just curious, anyone shooting the Orlando Titans this season? There was a large amount of photog there tonight.

::crickets::

SO if it were monthly... Last Thurs of the month? 1st Tue?

Best to stay away from wed nights and weekends for the most part...

Hey there... Same here. Wednesdays are tough. I think that a scheduled weeknight would be good and having something central would be ideal.

One thing I know is that one person might need to organize it and take the bull by the horns and go with it. Personally I have two groups that I'm starting up and I'm swamped.... but I think that once it gets going... democratically things will somewhat take over...

I certainly also think that a bit of exposure outside of this forum will be important... One problem that a lot of people are going to have is that so many groups and meetings here in Orlando have and are bogus. There's a rather unsavory element that rises up and runs things... so if it's a heartfelt attempt and people are there for the true spirit of the group then it'll be well attended. The other stuff like the FMPTA to name names is a sad deal and one meeting was all I needed to realize that these are the dicks that I hate and belonging to that group would be enough of a reason to change profession...

well that rant done.. I"m down and I have a few friends and students that would be inclined to meet up.... cheers

Sounds good Justyn,

I would have no problem making these things happen:
Some organizing, posting, marketing, website design...

We still need:
A Location (no word from moodhairboy, pmed him a few times)...
Content
Agenda
Speakers / Presenters (products reviews/demos, tips/tricks, examples, Industry news)
Meeting time - Last Thurs night of the month at 7:30?

I work out of Orlando frequently and would be interested to find qualified people to work with. Let me know the progress with your group.

I have been looking around...

I may have found a place worth trying out for at least the 1st few meetings. Should be able to come up with a conference room and maybe even a small rent-able studio space.

Located right downtown on Orange Ave.

I will be posting more information as I find out, this company is just starting to cater to video production along with web development.

GREAT NEWS:

We have a location to meet - anyone want to meet as soon as Feb 25th Thurs 7:30ish?

Pleases subscribe to this thread, it will be moving along quickly!

I just began shooting my first feature, I'm in lake County. If the meeting is on a day we aren't shooting, I would be happy to make the trip.

Smack in the middle of Florida here. Leesburg (Lake County) to be exact. Have a 100b and FCP to cut on. Anybody up to anything interesting? It's really boring here and I need to get out of the house more.

I'm new to Video, my background is Audio but I have quickly fallen in love with this medium. I shoot with a GH1 and various adapted lenses (in all mounts). I have a decent shoulder rig setup with follow focus, and a recently acquired Merlin stabilizer that I have yet to attempt to use. Nothing fancy but it's a decent starter setup for me.

It would be great to meet some local members. I don't know a single person who works in the video field, or is even remotely interested in video or film making. I'm pretty much solo in all of my video related endeavors. Would be great to network with people who have similar interests and work in the industry.

Subscribed. Looking forward to an update.

I love that there are enough DVXusers in Orlando to take this thread to 8 pages, despite that it was started a while ago. Heck, it's probably the biggest topic in this forum, so I'd love to get a group going.

Jon, what about meeting at the library? They charge $25 for under two hours. The space fits at least 30 people so we can setup a small studio I'm sure. Were you able to conjure up an agenda / presenters etc, or would the first group just be networking?

I've started an unrelated meetup in the past so I'm also happy to take some initiative. I wasn't in town February or I'd have jumped in earlier.

*edit*
Or we just keep it simple. If there's a few of us who can make it, let's just meet for lunch somewhere.

There's plenty of locations in Orlando. Just a matter of finding one that's central and one that doesn't involve Fullsail or something like that. Denny's is free and not a bad spot as they have a conference room. There's a couple of other places for sure. Even my church would probably be down for letting us use that too. I just think that it's fizzled as people have agendas, but I'm always down for meeting new people and getting to network. cheers.
