Looking into affordable PL mount light weight zoom options..

Hi all. I am really enjoying using my RED 17-50mm lens on the F3 at the moment, as it is a great lens for handheld work. I have a CP2 85mm lens on the shelf but am drawn towards looking at another PL mount prime with a good range which isn't too heavy nor expensive. I do have a Nikon 80-200 2.8 lens which I can use with its mount for the F3 but I really like using PL mount lenses and would rather stick with them. I could sell my CP2 50mm and 85mm lenses and put the money towards a new one. Any suggestions would be very welcome. Best wishes, Sparky

It's not PL, and it may be way out of your price range, but what about the ridiculous zoom made specifically for the F3? http://www.abelcine.com/store/SCL-Z18X140-SONY-FZ-MOUNT-14X-POWER-ZOOM-LENS/

Have you looked into some old Angies?

One of my favorite zooms is the Cooke 18-100 T3. Although kinda big, it's not terribly heavy, and I've operated with it handheld on an Epic - still balanced and controlled. The Cooke has a particular warm, contrasty look to it - more so than the RED 17-50.

Mmm, the Cooke with support is 13 pounds. It's one of my favorites as well but not exactly what I would call handheld friendly.

All the Best!

yep, the sony soom is an option as I do a lot of sports in good light, esp golf. I could use it to capture the 'stock' sports shots and use the RED, CP2 primes as the specialist interview lens etc.

I also like the RED 17-50mm for run'n'gun type shooting, but the Sony SCL-Z 18-252mm is also great between 18-105mm. Most of the ramping and speed issues are only really noticeable once you're longer than around 105mm - so it's a very flexible piece of kit. Nice to have 252mm to hand as well... so long as you treat it as a variable prime.

I wouldn't sell my actual primes for it though!

The Red 50-150 is a great focal length should you be able to find one. Whenever they seem to come up, they are bought immediately and are selling very close to original price.
