Looking for video editing software

I have a Dell XPs 7100 with 3.2GHz AMD Phenom processor (6-core), 8G DDR3 memory and 1GB hard drive, I am looking for a 64-bit (native) software to edit AVCHD, it needs to be able to handle 24p, 30p, 60i and able to export to WMVHD, Quicktime HD etc. What software I should buy? anything below $200?

Many thanks!

Well, on the tech specs the answer is decisively -- Premiere Pro CS5. Aside from the fact that it does what you want, learning it is learning the real deal editor used by more and more networks and production companies with each new day.

The budget is your problem. I'd like to buy a Sony FS100 for "below $200," but it ain't happenin.

It appears that there's a 50% discount on Premiere Pro until September 30th -- meaning $400. There's also some new subscription option -- $39 per month.

Vegas was everyone's first editor. It's a dead end, support is worse than Adobe (and Adobe is damn bad), and unless something is completely new -- it generates more headaches than happiness.

Plus one for Premiere Pro CS5,or 5.5.....that's the cheapest route to all the requirements you laid out.

I'm going to assume you meant 1TB and not 1GB HDD. Premiere Pro will work, so will Vegas, but neither are less than $200. Think of software like hardware. It's a tool and you need to buy the right tool for the job, which means spending the right amount of money.

1 GB....fail hahahaha

I think it's obvious he meant 1TB instead of 1GB. Seriously...anyways...

I've been preaching the benefits of Premiere Pro for a while now; way before the FCPX fiasco. Your $200 budget is a little thin but the Adobe Production Premium Suite 5.5 is 50% off and it really is a good deal. Get the 30 day trial and then buy it. It's above your budget, but then again, your budget isn't realistic.

Edius neo 3 is around $200 and does native AVCHD but it's missing many of the features that Edis 6 has.

Vegas Movie Studio

Vegas Movie Studio

Sony Vegas Movie Studio works very well with AVCHD. I use is on a 32-bit system, but there's no stated limit on 64.

If $100 is your max, then this is your only option.

For me, the big features it's missing from Pro are: Video Scopes and Track Mask abilities.

If the OP has more specific concerns, here are the comparisons:

Download the trial and see if it works for you.

Edit: I'm referring to Movie Studio HD Platinum
