Looking for sub $400 1080 24p or 60p camera with intervalometer

I just pounded through all offerings from Canon, Olympus, Sony and Panasonic and didn't see what I am looking for. I am looking for a "point and shoot" style camera. These cameras typically have built in lenses.

It must have:
1080 24p or 60p
Time lapse or intervalometer built in

Do I just need to go with a T2i with an external intervalometer?

The use is to make it my camera that stays on the slider the entire time at weddings. It has to be something that wouldn't be a large financial loss if someone stole it.

while you may find a point and shoot (or compact camera), that has an interval shooting mode. i don't think you would find any point and shoot capable of lasting more than an hour or 30 minutes or less on AA batteries, or a tiny battery. and it would cost as much or more than an entry level dslr that would be much more efficient on power while not in live view mode, with a bigger battery and the option of battery grip or external power.

options would be a canon or nikon entry level dslr or panasonic lumix compact camera lineup(don't know much about lumix).(if you already using canon, than stick to canon dslrs)

i think the nikon 3100 is about to be replaced and there was a $100 instant rebate and you can also buy it refurbished which would set it in the $400 with the kit lens but without the remote(interval).

T2i with magic lantern? and not using a quick release, but a screw that actually requires a screwdriver, would reduce the chances of this being stolen

A lot of the little Sony point and shoot cameras do 1080 at 60fps, the HX9, HX10, HX20 etc. Also they have some really impressive images for such a small size and great lenses.

Do I just need to go with a T2i with an external intervalometer?

If its going to be for purely for time lapse, Id go with something like that. The result is much higher res and can be placed in any frame rate timeline.

the real problem for using a dslr for timelapse is you wear out the shutter in no time at all . apparently the gopro 2 has a new firmware as well . it's high on my list as it also has 480/120p for slowmo

Hadn't seen the GOPRO2 yet.

"* Now supports time-lapse photo every 0.5 seconds. Requires Class 10 speed SD Card."

Maybe DELKIN DEVICES will update the WINGMAN HD camera.

Thanks for the input everyone!

T2i will work just fine with Magic Lantern, no intervalometer add-on required. If wearing out the shutter is of concern, ML actually has a feature to keep the mirror up (as in live view mode), and just take a series of stills at the inverval you designate.

Latest versions include bulb ramping and the ability to completely kill the LCD for power saving. Excellent time lapse camera on the cheap! The Hero2 is cheaper, but the Canon's images will be higher quality.

Good points. I am concerned about the gopro indoors / low light anyways. Plus, i would need some manual settings because, for example, i would want a sunset to go to black, not to some gain ramping...

the go pro is an OK option but think of the field of view. its about 175degrees in photo mode of i recall. I am currently trying to flatten out the footage in photoshop cs6 from a gopro timelapse and its working but slowly. It may not be ideal.
