Looking for pro camcorder recommendations for conferences and live events

.... There is also the TL-U58 1.5x teleconverter available for the Canon if you need the extra reach. I looked at that pretty hard for my Canon XF400 but never did press the button before going down the FX6 route.

I really liked the all in one package of the XF but found (if you care) that the reception I got with the Camcorder was "Do people still use these old video cameras" and then they would drool over the guy next to me with his BM Pocket ....

If it is going to be mostly used in the big conference room, how about a PTZ for that and a single Camcorder for the 2nd?
 
Morgan, when you handled the XF605, did you happen to engage the digital zoom? If shooting in HD it can go to 30x which is a lot. But only useful if the transition is smooth from optical to digital. That would be the deciding point for me.
 
I was at a different building when I guessed a max focal length of 300mm, but now that I've run a test in the conference room, I'd like to recommend a camcorder with a max focal length of around 500mm. Evan though I own APS-C cameras, I think of focal length in 35mm full frame equivalence.

The conference room has Vaddio PTZ cameras, but for larger events, we might need a different camera angle, better quality, and the instantaneous tactile granular control of a camera on a tripod.
