You damn Apes.

Thanks for asking Barry. Yeah; I admit Ive been on the impatient grouchy side. Sorry anyone of Im being an ass.

Work is buring me out
This zombie film is pissing me off (in a good artsy way; I always get tempermental when in production)
NC is like 10 months or so away
Im 35
I havent smoked in 2 months plus
I gained 11 lbs since I quit and am fighting that and trying to restabilize my metabolism (its working)

Sigh.............

ANyway; yeah Ive been kind of grouchy. :( :embarasse :lipsrseal

Maybe estrogen shots????

They did some research where male monkeys were given huge doses of soy isoflavones (plant estrogen, found in tofu, brocolli, etc.) and it totally screwed them up. They got all depressed and violent and anti-social. Chinese tofu and broccoli is, of course, among my favorite foods and I eat huge amounts of it. But anyhow, definitely not such a good idea re: estrogen shots but it's a funny idea.

As for the video not being "outstanding" there were about a gajillion issues on set: flights were delayed, fuses burned, and there was next to no equipment. Like, there was one day with a jib (horrible lighting that day, too), but other than that: tripod, dvx100, home depot work lights. I've got to say McDermitt's work ethic and dedication is insane although he's Machiavellian to an extreme extent, but equally resourceful. If he doesn't direct, which he could (though he'd make a better cinematographer, imo), he'd make a killer producer. He all but admitted that the video had no "real content," too, and was in some regards quite vapid. A weird bunch of people were involved, a very-inexperienced me not among the most helpful (perhaps among the least....) Anyhow, I'm thinking the next video will be considerably better, even.

I'm convinced his new stuff will get a lot better. It may take one or two more projects, but he's going to improve and mature definitely.

He SHOULD, imo, go to some film school--even if just for a year--but he's definitely going to transition to better stuff, not that this was bad, just that the content was meaningless.

Well, I'm not talking about technical difficulties here, heck, every set has them.
I was talking about the style of the execution, the shots, the camera positions etc.
To me there's a good third of that video that screams amateur.
Keep in mind that nothing was said about the dedication of M, and i'm sure it should be greater than we're saying now since he's so young yet he still manages to complete a project like that.

But unfortunately style is another matter.

And don't forget that every clip of the vacation shots was like stolen from the events and settings as they were, so little to no preparations were made, but the results were far better.

I personally loved the crane/jib shots, most of the closeups were good, but something just wasn't right in the rest of the footage.

But hey, these are just opinions about the video, not the talent itself.

Just remember that when somethings turns out "not quite right" it's better to have a critic attitude torwards the performance than just give part of the blame to set difficulties.

Besides, turning difficulties in strenght is one of the most valuable assets of a good director, am I wrong? It's the movie magic, the thing that turns the worst shots in something beautiful even when everything seems going for the worse.
And all that with a single intuition, baybe only a subtle axis change.

To make an example, we were involved a month ago in the production of a movie (we're doing the visual FXs) and there was a shot that just couldn't turn out good.
They had the right tools (steadicam, all sorts of jibs and cranes, even a shuttle cam for aerial dollys, varicam with zeiss digiprimes and an array of kinos and powerful (day)lights), but the location was absoultely impervious (a little hut in the mountains) and they were trying to do a rape scene (in which a couple was in the middle of a sex scene and then a crazy guy enters, nearly kills the guy and rapes the girl) , but it was fake all along.
Then the movie magic appeared: the production sent everyone to eat and then the director went up alone with the actor (the raper) and the steady operator, and asked them to hide beneath the hut; when the other two actors appeared he sent them inside the hut to shot the sex scene. Then he made a gesture out of the window and the hidden guys smashed the door open  and started the "rape" Noone except the director awaited that, so everyone was really frightened (this time for real) and they actually fought for real too, resulting in one of the most impressive shooting (and shot ofcourse) i've ever witnessed.

Pity that in the middle of the scene we could see the a$$ of the camera assistant, so we'll have to take that away in post (frame by frame editing argh!!), but the results will be worth the effort. ^_^

Anyways, don't get me wrong, the video was cool, it just sort of lacked that something that makes my eyes glued to the screen in awe.

But i'm sure he'll grow to be one of the good directors out there.

Sorry for the long post guys!

I said that because it's not clear if he's finished anything new since then. If he has, it isn't public. He was working on something but it looks like there were lots of delays. Maybe he has finished more stuff and it's just not online. Anyone know?

"Then maybe you should have married Mark instead....."

LOL!!! Nothing like calling out some other dudes name in the heat of passion.

where is this vacation video you keep talking about?

Saw some pics right before Matt's site (digitalinterference.net) went down from their current project. He is definitely going all out on this one...Not sure where he's getting the money, because supposingly he doesn't charge much for projects. But you could tell by the pics that he has invested in some heavy duty equipment and this next video could be NASTY!

.

.

One reason for Matt being one of the Great Ones here is that he came out of nowhere with his Uninvited video, which really showed us what can be done with our favorite camera. The other reason being he was so young.

We'll see where he goes from here. Although the girl's hotness is undeniable in Free Your Mind, as others have said, the rest of it is fluffy. That is because of Matt's client, primarily, but models like that are a dime a dozen. Well, I guess in her case it was more like 30,000 dimes...

I dunno. It seems to me that Matt's web sites are offline far more than online. I've pretty much given up on following his career... especially after that nasty XL2 incident...

I have worked with Matt professionally, and spoken to him in some business matters regarding his company, and I think he has some learning to do. But who doesn't at 20? I really hope he finds himself a good executive producer who is honest and treats him fairly. It is very easy to take advantage of young, niave very talented individuals.

I talked to him a few weeks ago on email... it only took him two weeks to get back to me with 6 blunt sentences . He said made a spec video that he doesn't want to put on to the internet and wont email but hes working some "huge video" he cant talk about...

the question is if this is true - ive been following his site forever and hes always promising work that never seems surface. i liked his old video a lot more, that was breath taking compared to the one with the cheezy singer. simply amazing work though, especially for his age (18!!)

anyone know what hes really up to?! his site is down :lipsrseal
