Here is my suggestion:
GENUS system.
Small, versatile, robust and looks cool!

I concur. I've had this matt box for eight months and I highly recommend it to EX1 users because it's small, light, well-made, fits under the mic and it's very affordable. True Lens Services provide excellent support too.

Hi Tata,

Would you be able to try if the Genus French Flag fit on to the original EX1 lens hood?

Has anyone looked into the difference between the Genus and the Kestrel?

I'm torn between the two: the Genus is offered in a package with rails and a good starter pack of filters (ND, Grad, Promist, Pola). It seems that nobody here has a problem with getting filters in and out of the Genus despite the overhanging mic/screen block and the use of separate adaptors.

For about the same price, you can get the Kestrel and filters, though WITHOUT rails. Filters slide in, no adaptor required. It looked a little nicer and better put together IMHO.

How important are the rails to you?

I want to know if anyone has used the Cenetactics Matteblox for the EX1. It's a soft mattbox. I have one for my VX2100, and it works great when I have my Century Optics WA attached. Otherwise I don't see a way for it to attach. If it actually works I may be able to adjust my polarizer filter withoug having to deal with the hood being in the way.

Attached are some examples on my VX2100. Notice there is a cool soft shade for the view finder too.

And here's where you can get one: http://www.cinetactics.com/Page.bok?template=sonypmw-ex1compatibility

Thanks too to all who recommended Genus. I've now bought it having looked very carefully at the TLS Kestrel. Even though the Kestrel is much lighter, feels a little better made and is even cheaper, it doesn't play as nice with the EX1.

The Genus seems to be specifically designed around the EX1 and the Century 0.6. Lots of little touches makes it a winner for the EX1.

Actual model number? They seem to have many. GMCB perhaps?

it says GWMC on the box, specifically because it's a wide angle thing, IIRC. The French Flag was an optional extra, which I got. I didn't bother with the rails at this point as I wanted a fast-on fast-off solution.
