GH2 Looking for a video camera next to the GH2

Hi guys

Not sure this is the right forum, but I wanted to ask people that familiar with the GH13 GH2.

I have GH2, use to have GH13

I am looking for another video camera with regular DOF and not shallow.
I found the shallow DOF not appropriate for every task

So I thought about TM900, or XA10, or even the XF100

Can any one recommended for a camera in the budget of 1000$-3000$?

I am not a pro, I am a video artist that want to shoot video "documentary" from time to time
For all the rest, the GH2 + D7000 I have is more than enough.

Thanks,

Ady.

Buy the ultra sharp 14-140mm lens and shoot at smaller apertures. If you really need low light with deep depth of field then yes the Panny TM900 will fit the bill. Do you need auto Focus?

You could always shoot really wide with an old large aperture wide angle lens. That would give you good low light with a broader depth of field. No AF though.

Thanks,

I have the 14 -140 :) and the 20 1.7 and a few nikon lenses.

Yes I want fast AF and large DOF for some tasks + good hand hold.

TM700/900's image stabilizer is awesome -- I sold mine but wish I didn't. Btw if you have Panasonic Direct you can get TM900 for $875 with tax.

save your cash and get the tm700! no reason to get tm900 whatsoever unless you're intending on doing crappy 3d or if somehow you find tm900 cheaper than tm700 which I doubt. So get a mic for the tm700 with the spare cash or sth. GH2 +fast lenses + TM700 is a great great combo

Here are the GH1 and TM700 together!

Here are the GH1 and TM700 together!

We have 2 Panasonic HDC TM700 small format HD cameras that shoot 1080p at 60 fps. These little units have exceptional image quality and are usually on our home-built rigs along with a Panasonic GH1 DSLR shooting 720p at 60 fps (can only shoot 1080p at 24 fps). The 60 fps files play very well on both Vegas 10c and Adobe CS5. We output to a variety of disc and web-based file formats. Here is a link to the rig set for 2 cam - TM 700 for remote power zoom tracking shots and the GH1 set to wide-angle. This setup is used for hand-held action sports.

Thanks

If canon, I was thinking about the XA10

I guess that the batteries of the TM700 are not good for the TM900, and the the big battery is 169$... while there are 20$ replacement for the TM700 in ebay. Non for the TM900.
Another thing to consider.

What with the HMC-40?

I like its ergonomic, is it the same image quality as the TM900/700?

Thanks

We use these at work, and they're great pro cameras with a much nicer form factor than the little prosumer palm cams, if you're willing to spend ~$800 more than the TM900/700 ($1780 at Amazon).

If I was going to spend that kind of money, though, I'd get on the waiting list for the new $2000 Canon XA10. This camera looks like it's going to be awesome.

My budget is a little more limited, so I'm looking at the new 1080/60p, SDXC card capable $540 Panasonic HDC-TM90K to supplement my GH2.

Thanks for the advice
The canon looks great too.

After reading reviews few days, and consider even the VG10, I notice that the GH2 is far far more quality then any of those cameras, by far.

My main issues is to control the focus and to have a good hand hold.

I am starting to think if a good shoulder rig + follow focus will not be a better choice.

I know exactly how you feel. Sadly, by the time you spring for a good Redrock or Zacuto rig, you'll have spent $2000.

If shoulder mount ergonomics are what you need and you don't mind shooting 1080i, you might want to check out the new $1749 Sony HXR-MC2000. Good reviews. Official Sony video here.

Thanks, this is too big for me.

I am not working with the GH2, I am doing video art.

I will open a new thread, but since we are here, I thought about some options:

here is a nice compare chart

My budget is 700$ +-

I will not spent more than this on a rig...
