Looking for a used EX1.

I'm looking at used EX1s and one of the things I look for is how many hours of run time have been logged on the camera. This is more of an issue with tape based cameras, but how many hours of use would be considered a little too high to consider purchasing an EX1 second hand?
Thanks,
M.

Hey, actually I'm looking for a used EX1r. I want the flexibility of shooting both HD and SD. Some producers I know still create sd content.
An EX3 would be nice but the EX1s are coming down in price and they basically have the same image quality.
I guess no one here knows the answer to my question. Maybe I'll give Sony a call :)
Cheers,
M.

If you want a used EX1R you should post that you want an EX1R, not an EX1. There's not a lot of chance of finding a used EX1R since they just came out.

BTW the EX1 has SD, or 4:3 guideframes. For clients that want standard def - I shoot 720p with 4:3 guideframes, and just plop the footage into an SD timeline. It looks better then SD AND you can do digital zoom/pan/scan with all the extra resolution. Also the file size isn't much larger than SD, even in HQ mode.

Thanks for the advice, although I'm not on this forum looking for a used camera. The subject is misleading, but my question asked how many hours of logged run time would be considered too high to purchase this camera second hand. I know what is too high for a tape based camera, but I'm not sure how this applies to a solid state camera. I thought someone might have a ballpark number.
I'm sure there's somebody out there who won an Ex1r in a contest and wants to sell it to upgrade to the EX3 ;)
Cheers,
M.

Hours in these cameras really isn't that relevant, more important is the condition of the body. 50 hours in a harsh environment is going to be worse than 1000+ hours on a well looked after body.

I doubt anyone would get an EX1R and then decide to 'upgrade' to the EX3, in many ways the EX1R is an update to the EX3... Perhaps wait until a EX3R comes out and you might find 'upgraders'

Not an EX1, but I just spotted a barely used EX3 in my local Craigslist for what seems to be an amazing price. I'm in no way affiliated with the seller and know nothing about the camera other than what is said in the posting.

$100 says the guy will tell you he's out of town but can have wife/friend etc send it. He can't take pics of it. He'll take paypal but not to confirmed address.

Please be really careful about this! Went to B&H, used section, out of curiosity regarding your dilemma and they have a used EX3 for $7299! This person on C's List needs cash badly and has only used it once, why doesn't he sell it to B&H immediately?! And probably for a lot more than they're asking for it on C's List!!

Looking at the ad again, I notice it says "only for the camcorder", which I assume means no lens. Again, I'm not affiliated with the seller in any way. I just saw it and couldn't believe the price.

It does say: "The price is only for the camcorder including 2x32GB SxS PRO Memory Cards and all the original accesories from the box."

The image used is of the cam and lens.

We have a used EX1 on consignment in fantastic condition. It just came back from Sony for a firmware upgrage. It's available for evaluation in our store (Kennedy's ENG, Inc. in Euless, TX). Asking $4500. It's in its original box, has all the goodies it came with, etc. Nothing wrong with this camera. The seller is buying an EX1-R. Feel free to look us up.
