F3: Looking for a used cbkmh01 Viewfinder for my Sony F3

Hey all,

I am looking for a solution for an eyepiece/viewfinder for my F3. I saw that Sony made one(cbkmh01), but it seems a little pricey. If anyone has one they are willing to part with, please let me know. Also if someone out there has a different solution that works for them, please let me know as well.

Thanks

I wouldn't recommend Sony's solution: it's just a weak diopter that fits over the existing (rather poor) flip-out LCD. It also forces you to hold the camera out in front of you if you are using a shoulder-rig.

I actually use a 7-inch Marshall field monitor on the end of a Cinevate stick (basically a simple and sturdy Israeli arm) mounted to the inside mounting point on the top of the F3. It's bulky, but it really works.

The most streamlined option I have seen has been a "Solid Camera" EVF holder along with an Alphatron EVF, all of which attaches to a Berkey top plate. This makes the F3 more like an ENG rig. But the cost adds up, for sure. You can often find used EVFs or small monitors for good prices, and I would recommend any of them over the Sony diopter, personally. If you think a diopter for your EVF is the best way to go, I will sell you my Hoodman version, which is a lot cheaper: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/687699-REG/Hoodman_HEXKP_EX1_Kit_Pro.html

I much prefer to use my external monitor.

Thanks for all that info. I also have a SmallHD monitor i could mount onto my rails and use for that same purpose. However I do like that eyepiece from HoodMan. It all really depends on how comfortable my rig is with the eyepiece vs. the external monitor.

Thanks again and I'll let ya know how it all turns out.

Scott
