Hey looking for a good skateboard dolly with track.

Please provide pics if you have them and any other details. Can pay with money order or paypal.

Thanks,

Nothing? There must be someone on this board that has one or knows of someone that is selling a dolly.

I'm sure somebody is going to point you to the Rowe Cine system... or else you may want to go into the hardware forum at the top of the main page... you can see a current dolly thread going there and perhaps you can proposition somebody to make you one like the one they made?

Yea, I would recommend going with the Rowe system if you don't want to make one yourself. Either way, I think you're going to have to supply your own wood deck, as the cost of shipping one would probably be way too much money.

I made a dolly about a month ago. I asked for help, and a bunch of people told me to go with a Rowe system. Forget that, I thought, I'm going to make my own. I had 16 skateboard wheels and damned everyone, I was going to home depot to get my PVC, deck, and angled steel.

Drilling angled steel is hard if you don't have a drill press. I did it with a hand drill and went through 5 bits, not to mention if I wasn't wearing safety goggles I would be blind from when a bit broke and snapped up and hit me in the goggle.

My dolly is ugly, starts jerky, and the front wheel grinds against the deck. I spent $150 on parts and also $40 on wheels. I ignored everyone's advice and instead of getting a Rowe kit, just had to make my own kit.

What's my advice? Buy a Rowe kit like I'm going to do, or buy mine... Hell, you can have it for cost -20% + shipping (it weighs 120lbs)

I've made a nice DIY as well, and there's a ton of threads here on this subject if you do a little searching in DIY and elsewhere on the boards. I and others have posted a lot of pictures too, I just don't have the time to do the search myself, I'm out the door.

Happy searching and exploring the options!

Thanks all for your help. I think I will order a Rowe system. What is the best kind of deck to get for this? I will have to get my carpenter friend to do it as he has all the tools but will need demensions etc.

Thanks again.

lol.. you know.. after i spent about 12+ hours (not including all the countless time spent researching parts and trying to get half way decent prices on them) making my first dolly system with little power hand tools and busting up my knuckles (quite literally) trying to do the same stuff PDX_DVX went through. i decided that there should be an alternative to spending a load of cash to end up with a load of dung. thus ALOT more money and time went into planning and making a system that would really kick butt but still be affordable. and to not have to bust knuckels i invested in some serious equipment to make the units with laser precision and less work than 12 hours a piece. some time later the rowe cine dolly kits were available here at DVX user. right now weve got a great sale on them. you can click the ad picture in my posts signature below or on the ad banner that appears on the top of the pages to read over the order page and check out the neat holiday sale. and for some user reviews.. heres the dolly thread page.. plenty of buyers had some stuff to say there about the product.

but whatever you decide to do for a dolly. have fun and happy shooting!

I used a piece of 3/4'' oak for ours. Stay away from particle board, as it's really heavy and isn't very durable. Any thick piece of plywood that's it good shap should work. The thing to keep in mind is that you want it thick enough not to flex when someone is standing on it. Another good idea is to either paint, or put oil based verethane on the deck. This will protect it from water damage and chips. As far as dimensions go, that's up to you. Length wise, ours was 4 feet, and for the rowe system, if you get 4' rails you'll have to make it long enough for the rails. Width wise, you can make it as wide as you want, but keep in mind you'll have to make it pretty skinny if you want it to fit through doors. I really recommend having full length rails, as they add an extra amount of strength to the dolly deck. And also, make sure you mount the rails extremely straight to whatever deck you get, the straighter the rails, the smoother the dolly. And when you're buying PVC pipe, get the stuff with thicker side. Anyway, long enough post...

13 or 15 ply birch available at any hardwood store for around $40 or so... solid as a rock, won't flex, easy to get a professional result with.

Helmspar Urethane. Used on wooden swingset seats 2 years ago... wood is still perfectly encapsulated even with OUTDOOR ALL WEATHER exposure! 2 coats.
