Aren't those very long? Better for wide shots where the mic has to be further away. You have to be right on target pointing those too.

Very directional (long gun rather than short) - T-powered only - discontinued about 35 years ago.
Replaced by the MKH 816 - that was discontinued about 15 years ago.
Current is the MKH 70 (introduced in about 1987) - polar pattern about half way between the 416 and 816.

I own an 816T
Haven't pulled it out in a couple years since I got a CS3
but its a great tool "when" you need it.
Would NEVER consider using it as a main shotgun though.
It is one of, if not THE toughest mic to boom with.
You better have a very skilled operator or he is goin to be missing lines all over the place.

I have both and I think the ME66 is a tad brighter. It helps voice cut through a little better. Your mileage may vary. The NTG-2, and most Rode mics are pretty nice, especially given the price.
