Looking at purchasing a Sony HDCAM deck. How do i hook it to my mac pro?

I know HDCAM decks dont capture footage via firewire like DV decks so would i need to buy an HDSDI capture card for my mac pro? My mac is a 2008 model running el capitan. What would i need to capture the full quality of the HDCAM tape to my mac? thanks

I'd get a Blackmagic Decklink Mini Recorder. It's got an HD-SDI and HDMI input. If you want to output to the deck, get the Decklink SDI 4K, which has 6G-SDI input and output.

I do exactly that. I capture from all SDI tape decks that way now. Straight into an Atomos as normally ProRes or sometimes Avid DNxHD depending on client requirements. If it's an old analogue SP Beta or DVC Pro deck I just run through a component to SDI video / audio converter which embeds the audio into the outgoing SDI feed. Saves having to buy dedicated BM / AJA capture hardware. Simple and easy, just import your files when done.
