UPDATE: Pending Shoot-Out Article

So far we've got the following on board to participate:

  • My35
  • Letus35
  • SG35

Still waiting to hear back from G35, Indie35, and Micro35. With even just the three that have responded already, we'll be able to do this by the end of January (allowing everyone manufacturing/shipping time, etc.).

I'd contacted the MPIC (DVXuser: Dan), not realizing that it was well out of the $1K market, coming in at $8K in price. Needless to say, we won't be comparing it to the others, as it's more in the class/price of the Mini35.

Wow, I'm really impressed and am extremely intereseted in purchasing one of these. I just have a few questions concerning the my35.

1) What is the functionality of the original DVX lens once the my35 adapter is atached? Is there still zoom and marco functionality?

2) Can the lenses with the my35 be interchanged, for instance, if I have a telephoto lens and want to use it, can I?

3) This one is for spider, could you re-post the sample video shots you've done so far? I've tried to dowload your original examples but all the links are expired.

4) Finally, what's the learning curve for the my35?

thanks guys!

1. You can still zoom/macro, but you won't want to. Personally, once I've got my zoom/focus set on the GG, I use Gaffer Tape to secure everything in place ... that way I don't accidentally go slightly out of focus on the GG while filming.

2. Yes, like any other 35 Adapter ... just have to make sure it's the same family of lens that the mount is designed for. Remember, the stronger telephoto lens, the more glass it'll have which means increased light loss. Or, you'll pay through the nose for a FAST telephoto lens.

4. Shouldn't be any different than any other 35 Adapter. The real curve is getting used to pulling a SHARP focus with the manual camera lens at the end & perhaps getting used to backwards/upside down images for framing, etc.

Letus35 is in, by default, and Wayne Kinney is in (shipping by end of January).

Have rec'd interest from Mike Dawson, but no real confirmation yet as far as shipping date, expecations, etc.

Rec'd word from the Micro35 camp & still waiting for further communication (just PM'd Brian). No word back from JHouser with the G35.

No sweat off our backs with whoever gets involved or doesn't, as an article will be posted with full details/images & side by sides of the adapters that particpate regardless of if we have 2, 3, 4 or 5.

i shot some bmx stuff with mike's a few days ago. spidey hooked it up and let me take it out for a day. mike, that thing is awesome and i need to get one from you for sure.

Mike just DP'd a short in the snow with your adapter.

Looked sweet.

It works like a dream outdoors.

Any of you live in Brooklyn or Manhattan? I can make you one of these as well -- I just need a DVX to test it out on. I have a working one for my GL1 that I would guess works just as well as the My35. I'm going to be playing with some other parts this coming week or so to see if I can bring the cost down while rasing the quality.

Some footage: clickenze here!

I am located in Manhattan and have a DVX-100a that you could test on. I won't be in the city for another week or so, however. Shoot me a PM or email.

Sorry if I offended anyone -- that wasn't my intention.
No worries. It's just bad messageboard etiquette to jack someone's thread like that. Just post a seperate one and I'm sure alot of people would be glad to check out your mini35. These things are HOT right now!
