hi, i did this video on tuesday.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGt1x_lMqzU&fmt=22

i work with my dvx100b

this is what i did:

1.- squezze mode

2.- 24pA (or the little circle in F6)

3.- shutter at 1/48

4.- lightment equipment are two Smith Victor lights (600w)

5.- capture the material using a mini dv camera sony very cheap via firewire.
(i work on final cut pro 2 , academy version)

6. i did this before capture

wento to easy setup

format: all formats rates: all rates
Use: dv-ntsc 24p (23.98) advance (2:3:3:2) removal

create a new sequence and check it was 23.98 fps

7.- capture the material

8.- start editing normal way, use g films filters

9.- to export it, i did this

goto export using quicktime conversion, then Options , Settings, Data Rate (i wrote 4.000.000 but when you click the ok button it will change to 2.xxx.xxx, so do the same and click ok)

then Dimensions, 1280x720 HD, click ok...use you clip name and save

Watch it at 50% size on your quicktime and it will look like this.

hope it helps a lot of people

ask anything you want to know....im not an expert but i have knowlegde

excuse my english

its ok, im not an expert like all of you...im doing my best....all i wanted to share was not the quality of the video (story, art direction) ,it was the quiality of the resolution on hd

it could have bad story, bad color, i know, but besides that it look ok.

sorry for posting some bad work.

try not to take it as a hit Unasemana...keep doing your thing. Maybe next time just post your work and let people comment on how great the quality is instead of posting that in the topic. Dont let it discourage you man...keep shooting and learning :). Personally i think some of the comments where kinda rough, as one can critique more constructively which will inturn help the OP and not scare them from posting their work. As with Ryvac I also think the colour has that retro vibe going for it.

It is...cuz i've learned TONS here....but if i got critiqued like that when i first came (the OP is a new member) ...i wouldnt want to post stuff again.

And at the same time one must also try to learn to be thick skinned about these things...but if critiques are thrown out like that without something to make the OP get better...i dont see the point.

thanks for yor comments, thats why im here, to learn, in my country we have to learn everything by ourself, so i read a lot on the internet.

and the video idea was that retro vibe.

i will post my next video here soon.

That's the thing, the content and art direction is horrible, but if that's what the client wanted, then it's not your problem.

Aside from that, I didn't think the quality looked that different than most DVX footage. DVX shoots great stuff whether it's HD or not.

But honestly, keep at it, and have fun with it. I'm about to start using my GH1 next week, and I'm sure my stuff is going to look like crap for a while. Don't sweat it ;)

The problem here wasn't that the video could be better. Everyone who posts here as room to improve.

The issue arises when you make a post that says "LOOK HOW GREAT MY FOOTAGE IS", when it's not. Then the criticism is likely to be harsh and biting.

If you want to get an honest critique on your work, post it and let people say what they want to say. Don't tell them it's great. Don't tell them it's not. Just post it.

The DVX does not stand up to HD in any way, shape or form. A well shot DVX compared to well shot HD is night and day. That's just the way it is. If it did stand up well to HD, a lot of us would have saved money by not buying HD cameras.

The resolution holds somewhat because it's mostly closeups with a few mediums. Closeups fool the eye in to thinking it's seeing more resolution. Wide shots would not hold up as well. Might not look awful, but wouldn't hold up as well.

As for the color - it could work ok but I think your black level needs to be a little more present. You can still have a sepia / washed out color, but you have to have a pretty good reason for not at least barely touching black on your scopes. It's also jarring when, at the end, we suddenly pop to full black with all the closing logos. Kind of points out that there was something "wrong" with the previous image.

Either lower the blacks in the commercial to the same level of black as the logos at the end, make the commercial black and the logo black meet in the middle, or lessen the black level of the logos to match the content.

thanks for the tip...i did it very fast, so i did not have the chance to do color correction

hope to do a great job with the nex video.

im buying a canon 550d soon!

saludos
