Rob Bliss is a something of a promoter- has lots of friends in the right places. He has done other events like this before with lots of people, people know his name so I guess the city trusted him to pull this off.

Once you read the list of sponsors in the youtube description it will make more sense, It was made to promote Grand Rapids as a city and thats why people got behind it + paid for it.

The city was really smart to agree to this and provide the fire vehicles, police, etc. They will get more miles out of this video, which cost them almost nothing, then millions of dollars worth of paid advertising. Doing this in one shot (5 takes I hear) on a steadicam was a stroke of genius.

Wow. That was monumental, and moving. I agree with Mainstreetprod, Grand Rapids will get more miles out of this video than any inconvenience it caused anyone. I had no idea Grand Rapids was like this. What a wonderful place. Restores my faith in humanity a little. Reminds me a little Discovery's The World is Awesome, or Where is Matt?
