Longer quick release plate or some slider?

I need to purchase something that gives me a better control over the placement of my camera on my 503hdv tripod so I can balance it better. Do you guys think that I should buy the 501plong quick release plate that is longer or some type of rails? I don't have much experience with rails so if anyone can recommend something to me that isn't too expensive, that would be awesome!

So, yeah as I have been researching I was thinking that rails aren't what I thought they were. I purchased the longer qr plate, and I am hoping it will be enough. Oddly, I have now decided to take my monitor and mount it to the tripod from the 3/8 inch mount area that one of the legs has. However, I am still too back heavy because I recently purchased the second telescoping arm for this 503hdv tripod. Two arms with the large capacity battery seem to be enough that I can't keep the camera from tilting up on any of the counterbalance settings and even with the camera pushed all the way forward. I should be getting the longer qr plate for the 503 on Tuesday...I am hoping that solves everything.

Those of you with 503HDVs with two sticks...are you having issues with this? It seems pretty dumb that the tripod can't even support my HMC with two handles.

So yeah, I have the drag at the highest setting, all the way up and it still does that. I thought you had a 503hdv, though. It seems even more likely for you to have this issue with the 501hdv right? There are probably some others who have the 503hdv with two handles and the HMC150. I wonder if they have any issues.
