long take critique

i like the blocking, however the steadicam op had some major framing and dutch roll problems. is this the best take for camera?

this is the take. We have a couple others with minor minor mistaks IE. Gaff tape showing stuff like that we can pick from.

cast. Its supposed to be that the guy in the white shirt is trying to get to her. I can see how you would think that from watching the long take but if you knew the story and saw the shots after that one it would make more sense. Good thinking though. I would have probaby like to get more to his side so you knew for sure what he was looking at.

Honestly this isn't that bad. The inadvertent Dutch roll screams "Merlin mistake," but I really like what you're going for. Also, that rooftop is a gorgeous location.

I didn't think I had that many framing problems, other than that tilt down, the big issues were the horizon issues (my best guess is that the combination of nerves about blowing such a big shot, this being the fifth take, and trying to recover from what was at best an awkward tilt down caused it). I thought I liked the 4th take for camera, but there were some set problems, and the director didn't want me to move out as wide as I did on the 4th take to see the bodies, so this was the take we ended up with. Plus, I wasn't watching it that closely, so there may have been other issues in it.

Not exactly great, but it does the job. Probably should have called for another take, but hey, hindsight is 20/20.

I liked it! Stabilize it some in post, and you might make the horizon problems less of a problem. Long takes is used way to seldom in movies. Its really something that can be done more, it gives so much credibility to the story (in my opninion) and ofcourse great fun to watch. Take a look at the one-take musicvideo I made in my signature.
