Long lenses on the AF100... How do YOU support them?

Now that there's a video camera out there that allows us to use all our slr lenses, how will you be supporting your longer ones? I don't know about you but I don't plan on testing the strength of my lens mount. Currently there seem to be a few options, but they all somehow seem ridiculously overpriced. There's the $225 zacuto, some $300-$400 chrosziels, a red rock micro (which unfortunately lacks a 1/4-20), a cinevate...

What's your solution?

I use a Zacuto Q-mount with a 2 inch rod. I put a 1/4" adapter on one end of the rod for lenses with tripod mounts and Zupport on the other end for those lenses that don't. I just flip the rod as appropriate. Pricey but works perfectly.

Seems to be one of the better priced ones out there. The design is a bit different... Do you notice any bend with it?

Do you think the Cinevate unit pictured above might get in the way of a follow focus?

Look at where the focusing and zoom rings are relative to the unit itself. I guess the unit is centered so maybe not?

I got the zacuto and used it on the "Howitzer" Nikon 50-300mm AIS, which is a MASSIVE lens, when Timur was shooting "Verse"

Here is a pic of it during the shoot:

When comes down to supporting heavy glass, I refuse to go cheap.

AF100_Alura_FP2.jpgHere's a Zacuto lens support. It is 1/4-20, had to use a 1/4-20 to 3/8" insert.

Hey editman, you've given me a link to the Berkey general site, but is there a product description and/or price for that support?

I ordered the Berkey support too from Brian. He is a great guy, and even made a short youtube movie for me how the support looks like!

Hey guys. I also purchased the Berkey system. He calls it the " Berkey System DQ1.5 " It has 4 risers for smoothly adjusting the height of the support plate without using shims and 4 rod clamps for your rods. I also purchased the little lens support which works great. Just an FYI you will need atleast 1.5" risers in order for the Zuiko 35-100 f/2 lens collar to fit. I plan on writing a little review of it at some point but I'm packing for India as we speak so I'll have to put that off.

The whole set up is very solid, professional but not gaudy looking. I don't like having a giant red or blue logo on my equipment attracting people's eyes while shooting, his stuff looks real nice but it's also "quiet looking." Great communication and support from Brian also, really nice guy.

Here's a link to the site: http://berkeysystem.com/

The AF100 with the DQ1.5 and the Zuiko 35-100 f/2.0 is a sweet looking and performing rig!:thumbsup:

By the way, on shorter lenses that are on the heavy side I cant put the lens support in the middle of lens because the follow focus is in the way... do you suppose I could place the support at the very front of lens (by the lens cap - in front of the follow focus) instead? Is that safe?
