long exposures on the hvx

Is there a technical reason why the hvx (and maybe most video cams?) don't allow for long exposures like photo cams or DSLR's. I think motion picture cameras also allow for long exposures, or at least I think we used to do that on Bolex's. Could that be implemented in firmware?

What is it that you are trying to achieve? How long would you like to expose each frame for, and at what framerate?

I guess I was thinking along the lines of interval recording. Start trails and stuff like that. I know with the hack you can bring down the exposure time, but it would be nice to have an even longer exposure time, and not have to hack it.
