LOGOS in film

In an independent film, I am trying to determine how wary I have to be of logos...

I was hoping to have a few situations clarified...

(1) Can a character wear a jersey with a sports team logo on it (without having to pay royalties) - not portraying a member of the team, just a fan

(2) Can DVD cases for other movies / movie posters on walls appear?

(3) Can the exterior of a skyscraper with a corporate logo at the top be featured?

Thank you

Why would you give away free advertising in your film?

It's a catch 22 situation. You can't use the logos without their permission, due to copyrights, but you shouldn't give them space/mention in your movie without tham paying for the product placement.

One way to approach this is to approach the companies and offer tham a great deal on product placement. :)

I am not out to give advertising, but logos can creep in.

So then, if that happens, their permission is needed or they must be paid? There is not just an ability to reasonably use things that appear in normal life as long as they are not being used to create a bad impression of their product?
