Logging HDV tape with a DV deck

I have footage shot on a Cannon XH-G1 shot at 1080p 30fps. The tape is DV/HDV and the DV deck is a SONY DVCAM tapedeck. I am having trouble capturing the footage onto the computer. I have my capture preset at HDV and my device control preset at HDV FireWire Basic NDF. I have a firewire connection between the computer and the DVdeck but when I hit log and capture it says:

"Device is not connected or the capture preset is not setup correctly. This might also happen is you play DV footage in an HDV device."

Is this because the deck may be outdated, that it came out before HDV? Because it reads the deck if I set it to DV NTSC and FireWire NTSC Basic.

Unfortunately you need a HDV deck to read HDV tapes.

If your deck could read/write HDV, it would be called HDV deck, not DV deck.

Also, to read Canon's progressive HDV footage you need either a Canon HDV camcorder or a 3rd gen Sony HDV camcorder or one of the most recent Sony's decks: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDV#HDV_1080p
