Log & Transfer crashing when skimming AVCHD footage

Been getting this strange problem for a while.

When importing footage from my HMC151 or SD100, if I scrub through the clips in the l&t window to find in/out points, occasionally (but quite often) Final Cut will freeze up, requiring a Forced Quit. :furious3:

Playing the footage is ok, or clicking at various points is also ok, it's only scrubbing which seems to do it.

Does anybody else have this problem, were you able to fix it?

Thanks.

I feel your pain. That happens so often that I just capture all clips in their entirety unless I'm doing a Same Day Edit, in which case I transcode each clip as soon as I select the in and out points before going to the next clip.

I have this problem too. I've sent a couple of bug reports in to Apple so hopefully they can start to get a handle on it.

It seems pretty random - and it's a PITA when it happens! I've noticed it more in 7 than 6, but that's probably because I've scrubbed more in 7 too.

I been trying to crash FCP 6.0.5 by scrubbing avchd footage for the past few days, and haven't been able to!!! the thing just keeps on scrubbing like nothing.

Do you guys scrub from the card itself, or do you transfer the footage to your harddrive and then scrub?
I will also try my MBP running FCP7 to see if that computers freezes FCP or something.

So far i feel kind of lucky =)

Log&Transfer AVCHD footage crash...PERIOD

Log&Transfer AVCHD footage crash...PERIOD

My FCP 7.0.1 crashes constantly every time i try to L&T AVCHD footage, I haven't had a chance to try other kind of footage, but I did try from different days of shooting/different cards (so there are no corrupt MXFs involved), also copied full directory structure to my HDD, trashed prefs, removed Perian completely, etc.
I must mention that the same footage transcodes flawlessly on my MBP, same FCP version.
My computer is a Hackintosh (Vanilla install of Snow Leopard, right off the original SL disc, currently at 10.6.2) that I built myself so I know some stuff may come from here, but it's still weird to me since all the othe Mac apps and all the other feature of FCP work perfectly (I just finished editing a feature film on it :)
Maybe someone experienced the same issue on a true mac.
I'm curious because it was quite a hassle to transcode so many hours of footage on another computer and then transfer it all to this one, especially since it was huge (422 HQ)
Anybody has any suggestions, since I'm all out of ideas.
Thank you kindly

Mine is a Mac Pro 2.8 8 core. I always copy the cards onto my HD before transcoding. Strange how some people don't get this problem but others do. Just to clarify, it's only in the L&T window that I get this problem. Once the footage is transcoded, no problems at all.

Are you running QT "X"? some people are having trouble with SL and QTX on FCS3... I also have a Quad Hackintosh, but I'm running 10.5.6 with FCS2 and no problems there at all!

I also tried my MBP running FCS3/FCP7 under 10.5.7 and no Problems there either. So far all my machines are rock solid while scrubbing, transcoding, editing, AVCHD footage.

I even tried really long clips on the L&T window, even adding multiple cards directories from the harddrive (i don't transcode from the actual cards, nor from the same drive as the OS)

Did you solve this?
Sitting here with my own Hackintosh 10.6.2 vanilla
FCP 7.0.1 Canon HF100 Footage and a L&T that goes "poof"
Will try and remove qt x and install 7.x
Btw P2 footage Loads normally
Will report back if solved

Same problem here. I just try and work around it by not doing a bunch of scrubbing during L&T. Kind of stinks. I once tracked done a AVCHD problem to Perian being installed. Maybe it is a similar issue. Anyone have Perian installed? Any better with it uninstalled (just turn off from settings panel).

I had this happen 1 time.. few weeks ago. I was pissed.

I was thinking I had to much open - firefox and other crap while I had a few clips in the cue... but now that you have issues with a quad 2.8 it worries me more...

I too have been clicking more than scrubbing... :)

It seems to be the scrubbing that causes the problem, clicking seems to be ok. Hope they sort it with the next update but I'm not holding my breath.
