Log and Transfer Timecode issues

I am transferring footage from P2 cards when I shot my footage on the HVX200. I am logging and transferring the HD footage on Final Cut 6.0.6. I've had perfectly good transferring for months, and now the first real hurdle. I think I know the general problem, just not how to fix it.

I did not reset my timecode before filming, so the timecode overruns from 23:59:59:29 to 00:00:00:00 WITHIN the clip that I want to transfer. It continues on for another minute and a half or so before ending.

I have transfered footage before this timecode reset perfectly fine. I have even transfered the very next clip after this problematic one perfectly fine. I just cannot get it to transfer for this particular one (naturally, the best clip!).

When I try to transfer it, it will load until about the time of the timecode reset, and then stop. It will then go to idle and the transfer progress bar will go back down to nothing, as if I did not even begin transferring. If I ignore that, and transfer other clips (which will work perfect) the clip goes from idle to the red octagon with an exclamation mark.

I already tried breaking up the clip. I transferred the first half of the clip before it resets to 00:00:00:00 and that worked good and have that portion of it. But once I try capturing from 00:00:00:00 or even 00:00:00:01 till the end of the clip, it continues with the same problem.

I read another forum for "Removing the Advanced Pulldown and Duplicate Frames" preference in log and transfer. That does not solve the problem.

Removing Advanced Pulldown has nothing to do with your problem. That is for fitting 24pA footage into a 60i stream for editing.

Here's a couple ideas for salvaging your clip with the timecode issue:

You can setup FCP to ignore timecode breaks and that should allow capturing the entire clip without issue.

You can also try to capture in FCP using playback thru the component analog output of the camera rather than transferring? If you have a converter that will accept that stream it should feed without any timecode allowing you to capture the complete clip.

I'll try to set it to ignore the timecode

I'll try to set it to ignore the timecode

I can't use it through another medium that I know of, since I transferred it off the P2 card, which has subsequently been formatted and filmed over.

So if you didn't drag and drop the contents folder to your HD, or if you have no copy of it on your PC then I guess your out of luck. I guess this is why most users recommend offloading the P2 data onto your PC and then using FCP to log and transfer from the PC copy.

Oh I offloaded them

Oh I offloaded them

Sorry, I misunderstood you.

I transfer my files from off the P2 cards onto separate hard drives, one work drive and one back up drive. I do have the contents folder of the files. I just thought you were talking about hooking up the camera through final cut by some means, and then utilizing the cards that way.

But anyway. I have the contents folder. What can I do to possibly correct this issue via that?

You can try to set the preferences in FCP to ignore timecode breaks and then use log and transfer browsing to your contents folder and attempt to transfer the .mxf files.

Optionally, if you can't get that to work you could try to open those files in Quicktime Pro and then save them as a standard .mov file and then you could import those into FCP.
