Log and Capture/ Playback Options

I've been using my DVX100A for capture and playback but I've read posts about not using your camera for a vcr. What are the options for capturing quality images. If I use another mini dv camera will the images be the same quality, or do I need to buy a pro editing VTR like the Panasononic AG-DV2500?

I'm not doing a lot of production now but plan to ramp up my operations and be able to handle the work. But should I invest in this or save my money for the impending transition to HD?

ops - there's been a bunch of post on this subject but to answer it again. Many guys/gals here do not use the camera for a vcr. I personally use an old Canon Elura40MC for my deck.
Quality is not an issue as you are using the camera through the firewire port with a digital signal. There's no difference in video quality through the firewire port of the $3k DVX or $300 Elura40.
In fact, I've found that in Premeire Pro (not sure what software you are using) the Canon is controlled through the software much better.

Sirius_Doggy, thanks for your reply. I did do a search of previos posts and did not find anything specific on editing decks. So as long as I have a minidv cam with firewire I don't need to spend $1500 on a deck... works for me. now to find the cheap mini dv...
