Stills look like they are squeezed, dont know what happened in the final cut - still image conversion?.....

Video was shot in Miami a month and a half ago. We flew out there when that hurricane went thru. We shot three videos that week. We lost all of our locations. The concept, location and even the actual song for this video was made up on the fly one day before the shoot. Miguel Navarro was the director.

Basic set up, two dvx cameras, a few HMI's, and a dolly powered by a strong strong japanese girl who didn't sign up for dolly duty but hey, we had 5 people on the crew, including the director.

Since then, the band has been nominated for a latin grammy for best rock album. Which is awesome. Maybe we'll have a real budget next time.

Congratulation..., really nice video. Really enjoy the rythem of it, the lighting(wow) and the CC!

Best luck for the band and your crew.

Oh man, was hoping to be the first to chime in on this but I actually spent to much time watching the video repeatedly. LOL

Great job man, you all should be very proud. Next time you are going to come down to Miami or considering it let me know with some advanced warning and I will put you in touch with the studio there. I am sure after I show them this video they will really be interested in working along side you all. (and as I have said in the past, they have Miami on lock down) What club was this shot in?

Nice music video. I quite liked the CC.
From the stills, it looked like you used Magic Bullet.
Did you use it at all, or you just did normal CC in FCP?

Killer amigo. Why do latin videos always seem to kick ass here?

OLE!!

I would like to also know the kind of set up you used here such as:

filters
Lighting
Editing/post effects

Tizzy: for sure we want to come back to Miami! Shooting on a studio set would be real nice!
This current video was shot at a club somewhere in south miami, la covacha or something. Nice place, very tropical, open air environment.

araujofh: Used mostly FCP for CC, but then started experimenting with magic bullet, and added the green pearl preset. I hate using Magic Bullet, cause it's way to slow to render and it seems to mess with my FCP session, I had about 12 clips dissapear left and right. Those invisible clips did not show up on the timeline and did not register, but they played perfectly fine. Very weird... does anyone else encounter this problem?

filters: none
Lighting: 2.5k HMI's blasting at 3 corners, that's it, oh and the lights they had at the club, there was a light 'deejay' doing his thing.
Editing/post effects: all fcp and magic bullet. Some of the effects dont show up on the quicktime compression, but there are quite a bit of experiments in that one, with layering shots and fcp effects here and there.

Amazing...wow. The editing was tight the band was good and the location was alive. Only thing is that there is no story or anything to really keep you watching, I sorta wanted to stop watching a little over half way through because there was nothing to keep my interest other than the very well done(but of the same thing) visuals. If I understood the language the song would have probably kept my interest a lot more. DOn't think I didnt like it tho....it was really good and well done. It looks like it was shot with a big budget

I thought it was cool, but its just that MB filters stick out like a sore thumb. They are so overused, with that said, I think it worked ok with how you used it.

That's what I thought.

Was that steadicam or DVRigPro or something like that?

We had two cameras sitting on a dolly. One was on tripod, the other one free flowing hand held. Now imagine a frail japanese girl pushing two guys with equipment sitting on a dolly, for about 4 hours.

btw, you'll be able to see the video on television, its on rotation on MTVespanol, and at least 5 other networks have asked for a copy. LPJ's manager has asked us to make 15 more betaSP copies for other networks, so hopefully it's the start to good things.

It definitely is the start to good things! Very nice job.

I couldn't watch this sitting down ... it gets you moving to the beat.

Now how about your camera settings? Any other equipment besides a dolly?

Also, can you tell us more about how all the people in the scene were brought together? Did they just happen to be at the bar that night or did they audition? Were they paid? And if they auditioned, what kinds of sources did you use to get the casting call word out?

Thanks and great show!

alumna: camera settings very very basic, 48 shutter speed, I had my dvx100a set the same way I always have, which is pretty much factory, and a few recommendations that came in the dvx book, which I honestly don't remember. Then just matched the settings to the second dvx100 which was not an A btw.
We had a little grip package from a local rental house in Miami. If I remember correctly we had two 2.5k HMI's placed at two opposite corners, then a 4k HMI, it's what you see blasting thru the terrace, and it brought up the general area. We had a few other tungsten lights but I dont think they were used there. We also had a putput generator which let us down a few times due to hurricane rain.
The crowd was invited by the different band members, that's the best way to go about it. If the band has a pretty good following, people will show up. The club was closed for that night just so we could film there. That was a life saver. Nobody got paid, crew, extras, director, no one got paid, but we got to eat a lot of good cuban sandwiches, and empenadas which were all on the budget for a week. Sweet.

thanks for the background info. You clearly put your mind and body into this video and it shines through. The food sounded good ... got to try one of those cuban sandwiches one of these days!

Looking forward to more of your great vids.
