Locking Timecode-Music Video

I searched the forum and couldn't find an answer to this one, so maybe someone could help out.

When shooting a music video, there is a way to lock the timecode of the video with the timecode of the audio to make the editing process more simple.

So when your editing, you could start the audio at 00:00:00:00 and the the various video angle at the same timecode and the audio will be synched to the video.

I don't know if I am phrasing the question properly, but I just need to know how to do it.

When shooting, how do you keep the audio and video timecodes in synch?

Any help would be much appreciated.

I'm doing one thing that should help in sync.
I asked the sound studio to add 1 frame bip every 15 seconds in the music. So when I play the cd for the band, the camera is recording the music plus the bips as reference, then editing I have 2 audio tracks, the original music and the playback music (with the bips). I'll check the part of the music they are playing and get the closest bip to sync

I hope this helps,
Ulisses

typically cd players or any crystal controlled devices will stay in sync long enough for you to make your video. you are not going to be on any one scene longer than 5 secs or so anyway so critical sync is not an issue.

if you can get a time code slate, slate at the top and end of the scene.. use current time and you will be just fine. i used to do this back in the u-matic (3/4) days befoere NLE's were here..

Thanks. I'll try adding the blip in front of the track.

The guy in the band was insisting on the timecode lock thing because he had done it once before. It must have been a trick the director had on that shoot.
