Location Sound for Video

There is a DVD out there by "Wes Cavalier" titled "Location Sound for Video". Is there anyone here that knows if it is worth a damn or not. I was not terriblely impressed by the clip I downloaded off his site www.soundforvideo.com but it might have just been the compression. It's only 20$ so if no one has an opinion I might just spring for it.

Well at that price it's a no brainer. If it's a load of crap it goes onto ebay and you won't lose very much. If its good its a bargain!

Yeah, twenty bucks isn't bad. One thing I would inquire about though is how long the video is. If it's 30 minutes, I'd be skeptical. The videos that are really worth their weight in gold are the ones that use lots of detailed instruction rather than the general overview type of instruction. It's all those little details that will really give you a better understanding of the process.

Took a look at the preview, can't say if it would be helpful or not. I will say Jay Rose's book"Producing Great Sound for Digital Video" is definately a great resource for beginners and even those with some sound experience.

You would be hard press to find someone who felt they wasted their $35 on it. If your only gonna buy one I would say get Jay's book. If you are comfortable spending the other $20, buy the video too and then come back and tell us what you thought it.

Good luck

you get more information here for free , ask for discount since you only use the pictures:=-)

Video is only about 25 minutes long and very basic. Live and learn. Guess I will get Jay Rose's book"Producing Great Sound for Digital Video" unless someone has a better video in mind.

Amazon usually has Jay's books in a bundle for a discount, and I recommend both highly (can't remember the exact title of the second, but it is for post audio). And, besides, Jay is a really nice guy and very accessible.

Ok it arrived this morning and I have just finished watching it.

Total runtime=24 mins 12 seconds, and it struggles to last that long by repeating all information about 6 times. Did he say to check your batteries if there's a problem? About 6 times!!

Very very basic stuff that anyone with the smallest amount of knowledge could have put together. Doesn't go into any detail at all. he mentioned always use the mic input, and never the line input, but failed to say why, although it was mentioned about 6 times.

In fact, the 24 mins of info could have been condensed down into about 6 minutes with relative ease.

Waste of money and it goes on Ebay tonight. I want my money back and some other sucker can cure their insomnia with it.

Ty's site is a great resource for hearing A/B tests with mics and his mic tutorial is brilliant. Great resource

Matt's site also has some really good audio samples and demonstrates some mics (like the Oktava) in various situations. Another great resource.
