GH2 Load NTSC firmware into GH2 Pal version

Hi all,

it's possibly to switch between NTSC and PAL using the appropiate firmware on a GH2 PAL?
Some experience or test's.:undecided

I found just now in a german forum that it's possibly

sorry, only in german language, take a look what user ildefons is telling

http://www.systemkamera-forum.de/mi...mera-technik/15479-gh2-60fps-statt-50fps.html

recapitulated translation:

User has send GH2 concerned some issues to pana, panasonic technical engineers had unintended??? updated the GH2 intstead with PAL firmware with the NTSC one. User received the GH2 and was able to record video in ntsc mode....he returned the again to change the firmware from NTSC to PAL....now he has his "old" PAL firmware.
What tell us that?

hmmm... very interesting. it has nothing to do with hardware.
(of course you WON'T have 25P - EVER !!!:Drogar-Kriz(DBG):)

During MB change they selected wrong region.
After it they changed Mb again, and selected right region. :-)

Is it possible to change region in service center more then one time (on absolutely new MB!) ? No. 100% no.

Vitaliy, you know that or you guess that?
This is based on the instructions from the GH1 service manual. GH2 is most likely working in the same manner.
When a motherboard is installed for the first time a dialog box pops up asking for the region code.
Once the region code is entered, there is no way to get that dialog box to appear.
Vitaliy was able to figure out which setting the dialog box is changing and control it with his patches.
At this point it looks like Vitaliy got a firmware update for the GH2 and found it to be encrypted.
By now the latest versions of TZ (and others) cameras from Panasonic come with encrypted firmware updates as well.
Vitaliy is now trying to get hardware tools to extract the firmware from the chips on the motherboard.
That will give him the needed insights on how the loader loads and decrypts the firmware. He can play with cheaper cameras to achieve this goal.
I am not sure if he got enough money to get the tools he needs.
So please donate if you want to spead up the process.
Good luck, Vitaliy.
