live'ish Music Video shot with the DVX100

Thanks for the comments. The artist wanted to do a live cut but I only had one camera and I thought it would be best to cut it like we had multiple cams. The footages were taken from multiple takes.

I actually wanted a desaturated yellowy taint rather than pure b&w but the artist insisted on b&w, and yeah I had been thinking about putting my stuff on vimeo for quality - should get that done soon.

It was room lighting - it was a pro recording studio and the light fixtures were superb. I just had to turn most of it off and leave a few on as spotlights on them.

Yeah she is really good.

The sound was the studio's recording, with pro studio gear. She was recording a couple of 'studio live' bonus tracks for her CD.

So the audio was live from one take, but the video was taken from several takes.

Very nice!
Beautiful song.
The B&W worked perfectly for the song and setting.
If you (or she) didn't want a story, not much I'd change.

But if keeping it in the studio, maybe some CUs of her face (not singing) in limbo lighting?
Or a take of her singing, but not behind the mic?
And different shots of the guitarist- WS, CU hands?

What was your Master Ped setting in cam?
What did you play with in FCP for the look?

Nice work!

Thanks.

The artist was paying for the studio time and everything else (including me) out of pocket for the bonus audio tracks for her CD. The audio recordings was the priority so I had no say at all in there except the lights and where to place the camera. I couldn't even make a sound as they roll because that would ruin their take. I also had no idea how many takes they were going to do and how much useful footage I was going to get for my cuts so my focus was to be safe and get as much useful footage as possible.

I made a rookie mistake of not pointing out to her that she was shiny, so initially she wasn't very happy with the footages. Much of the work in post was to fix that.

The look: for the CU, brightness 3, contrast 15, the Mids was up half way, Blacks down a bit and Whites up a bit. The wide shot's contrast 5. I was just using the 24pa preset on the DVX.

Believe it or not she was recovering from a cold that night. She can sing better.
