live web casting help (beginner)

hey all

i am researching options for live web casting capabilities with my hvx-200 and mics, but i have severely limited experience in this area. i need help. are there any helps available (tutorials, books, cables, convertors, etc) that would help me out?

my company wants to utilize our camera to be able to notify colleagues of important announcements (think, if swine flu necessitates a whole office closure - how can we live web cast something to all of our colleagues?).

any input would be appreciated.

depends on what you mean by "webcast"
unless what youre shooting is absolute, down to the second, time sensitive, it would make more sense from both a cost and workflow standpoint to just shoot it then post it minutes later to your website.

for the example youve given "to be able to notify colleagues of important announcements" webcasting wouldnt make any sense unless all those "colleagues" were already on your video page.

i think the easiest thing for you to do would be to shoot your video, capture and edit it, then simply export a web friendly format like swf or h.264 and post it on a web page. then send out a text or email or whatever letting them know it was there.

or you could just use an instant messaging tool (msn, ichat, yahoo messenger, etc) that has video capability and use the hvx as your web-camera

thanks for the response.

from what i am understanding from the requesters at my company, there is a teleconferencing software (web ex) that they use frequently. and they want to know if we can utilize our hvx 200 as our webcam...which i am sure is possible. i am just not exactly sure how to do it?

thoughts?

as long as it takes component or firewire in. it should work. just switch the camera to whatever resolution it asks for, hook up and go...
