Hi everyone!
Has anyone of you did live streaming with FS7? I am wondering if it's possible to do it without any atem (want to do it with minimal setup)

The included wi-fi module does not support video output/streaming. The more expensive CBK-WA100 is worth a look.

But for cheap live streaming, a Blackmagic UltraStudio Mini Recorder ($140) and a laptop with Thunderbolt should do the trick. Then, whatever software you like to use for streaming.

Teradek is offering the vidiu? Which also incl some free iOS software for 500$....it looks pretty amazing if you need live streaming....

Depends on how many cameras.

On the 20th of last month I streamed an 8 hour live presentation using my FS7. I connected the HDMI out to a BMD Mini Recorder (incorrectly named as it does not record) which enable me to feed the signal via Thunderbolt to my Late 2013 maxed out 15" MacBook Pro running 10.9.5. On the MacBook Pro I ran Wirecast 4 and fed the encoded stream to BizVision which is a commercial streaming provider that specializes in streaming events for businesses.

I could have also had a firewire and USB camera. I have not tried two Thunderbolt connections to Wirecast. You are limited to the connections on the computer used. I have also tested another SDI camera to an AJA IO Express to Wirecast 4 running on a 2009 Mac Pro even thought that is not supported.

BTW, avoid Yosemite if possible. It has issues sometimes with third party IO products. Folks should not upgrade production machines unless absolutely necessary.

Hope that helps,
Robert

Thanks a lot!!! That's what I am looking for: cheapest option possible. I have exactly same setup when comes to computer: maxed out MB Pro. Fortunately I have not yet upgraded to Yosemite. So if I will have two of them (BMD ultrastudio recorder's) I should be able to do double camera setup? Have you had any sort of control of streams? (like software atem to add some lower thirds, ads etc.) I'm still deciding on provider (ustream, livestream, wirecast... I am based in Europe).

CBK-WA100 way to expensive for me :/ Cannot justify to buy this yet.

Looks great! That's probably the cheapest option available, isn't it?

I think you could use the laptop as a switcher between two sources from two Mini recorders, but I'm not certain. If multicam switching is important, you might want to look at the Blackmagic ATEM Television Studio switcher. That would give you much more flexibility and room for growth. And it can generate H.264 files.

Wirecast is a software package not a provider. It allows lower thirds, color/exposure correction, multiple cameras, multiple audio sources, and more. It is streaming provider agnostic and supports multiple encoding options. I have tried others and found Wirecast to work the best. Other provider supplied packages such as Ustream Producer have been based on Wirecast.

I was not sure so after your question this morning I asked on the Blackmagic forums and someone replied that two Mini Recorders will work into Wirecast. I hope to try this soon myself. You should of course test any workflow/configuration in advance of need.

Take it EZ,
Robert

Many thanks :)
Isn't BMD ATEM Television Studio switcher coming with control software? That sounds like a great deal and would not require to buy wirecast. Or I am missing something? Any reason to go with wirecast anyway?

Depends on needs, etc.

Many video enthusiasts and professionals already have a laptop and the base version (now called Pro) of Wirecast is $500 US. Add two Mini Recorders and you are still significantly lower in price to the TVS. The BMD ATEM TVS is $945 at B&H. And you still need a computer.

If you need the extra inputs or like it better, go for it. To each his/her own.

Personally I am hoping to wait until I can afford a 4K interface before I buy another. There is already some UHD and maybe 4K streaming. I also do not want to carry my rackmount road case to streaming jobs if I can avoid it. Because of Resolve only supporting BMD devices I probably will end up with some version of the 4K Ultrastudio.

Hope y'all having fun,
Robert

When using BMD Mini Recorder can I utilise BMD ATEM Software Control instead of Wirecast? Is there any usage of this or that is purely for controlling hardware?

Hey,

I was wondering about that last night. I just looked at the product page for the software and they did not mention any streaming capabilities so I would say no. You may want to ask in their forums. And judging by some answers to similar questions it would appear that you still need a mini monitor to go between the ATEM and a laptop for capture and then Wirecast or something similar to feed a streaming server.

Lack of thunderbolt cable in a BMD UltraStudio Mini Recorder box was a little surprise for me but I guess I should expect that ;)

Cannot make mini recorder to output fs7 stream on the screen :/ (using hdmi) All I get is a black screen. What am I missing? Will appreciate your help!

Edit:
I've managed to do it :) Note for anyone struggling: once you will setup everything on camera disconnect and then reconnect mini recorder to your computer.
