GH1 Live Shooting "what you see is what you get"

Hi all. Sorry I've read the manual and looked about but seem stuck. Is there any way i can set my new lumix gh1 camera so what i see in the lcd/viewfinder is what the picture will actually look like? When i take a picture (with and without lumix lenses) it may appear darker or lighter etc and is a real nuisance having to take photos this way and through trail and error. Surely there must be some form of live mode? So if im see an underexposed pictured and snap it, the picture will be underexposed too? Another thing thats bugging me is sometimes the camera changes thee brightness depending where i point it! Iy even does this with my viogtlander 25mm attached! Any sugesstions or ways to work around this would be much appreciated, thanks!

Unfortunately, the GH1 lacks the "Constant Preview" menu option provided by the GH2, which gives you a WYSIWYG exposure preview in the LCD and viewfinder displays. While there is a workaround for the GH1, it's a bit awkward. If you shoot in Manual exposure mode, you can set up Creative Movie M mode with the same exposure settings as you intend to use in M photo mode. You can then preview your exposure in Creative Movie mode and rotate the mode dial one click over into M mode just before snapping your photo. Although the display may change appearance when you switch to M mode, the camera will retain the exposure settings from Creative Movie mode. Not very intuitive, I know, and if you're into still photography, you'd probably be happier with a GH2 than a GH1.

there is a constant preview on GH1, you can enable "shtr speed effect" with the shutter/trash button and then toggle it on or off with the display button...

OH MY GOD! LPowell, yet again you make my GH experience richer. I had absolutely NO IDEA about the constant preview option in the GH2! I thought it was the same as the GH1 - ie awful for stills due to the lack of it! Thankyou so much.

The funny thing is the GH1 functions much as an SLR for exposure, with a bright viewfinder no matter what, and meters to set exposure, but on a digi-viewfinder, I can't get with it at all for some reason. I can use the GH2 for stills now without hating it - awesome! Thank you!

Hey thanks all for the info. A tad dissapointing but my fault for not realising before purchasing! Bit gutting... but never mind. As for the creative movie tip thanks, it does seem to get me closer but i cant seem to change the shutter or aperture settings in it, only in the manual mode. Also, does anyone else have the problem where in manual mode when you aim the camera at different point it automatically brightens up or darkens, like its in some type of automatic iris mode or something!? It's a real nuisance, as far as i can tell, all my settings should be on manual.

And thanks for the tip about the shutter speed effect, seems to work too. Is there anyway to set it so it stays to shutter speed effect off? Otherwise each time i take a picture i have to press the garbage button then toggle shutter speed effect off. Thanks all for the advice once again.

The only solution is GH2 - constant preview on! Sorry. It should have been different on the GH1 - really not well thought through!
