Hey guys,

About a week ago we did a five camera shoot (all DVX's) of a metal band called Scar The Surface. Tonight I cut together the first track, and I was looking to get some feedback from you.

Let me know how you feel about the shots/cuts, whether they match the intensity and if it suits the music well, or if it's completely off or if there's any other problems you can see.

Also, this was just a rushed mix of the audio and it is popping all over the place, so please try ignore the peaks!

Cheers!

Dave.

you completely ignored the point of my post but yes we did get the sound out of the soundboard, 4 channels connected straight into the xlr points on two cameras. best we could do. the sound hasn't been mixed yet and i threw it together very quickly just to help me cut.

Fair suck of the sav!

The shots where well paced! I'm not a hard metal fan (mainly hip hop), but I ain't no drongo either, I don't mean to Skite ,but I know good editing when I see it. So yeah, your edits matched with the intensity of your video perfectly.

There was nothing bodgy about your video at all. It was a rip snorter of a video.

5 camera's that must have been exy!

Anyways, good onya mate

"Fair suck of the sav!" Not quite sure what you mean, haha... don't know what you mean by "Skite" either.

But thanks for the feedback! I'm glad you liked it, and yeah the five cameras was great to work with! Cheers.

So I liked this type of music enough to say that "Snot" was insanely good.

Perfect, I'd say get them to understand how much you could do with a story on top of it... they get something great and you get an other job!

I liked your rithm and the look, and the location. All I am worried about is your focus, was it slightly off the whole time? Mostly decent, good, great, and if you did some focus play on some shots. Post a 480p if you can!

I am not sure if you are already doing this but if you are using a multiy cam system or if you are editing strictly within the timeline amongst all five cameras.... try to find other sections that match the rithms of an other point in time... grab the cool things that overlap each other and use them

Som other ideas: On the bridge you could go even softer with your shot selection, at least get rig of the fastest zoom out. And then try to start into the next verse/chorus with one of those shots. The fast zooming out and in are some of your most violent shots... I also like when the frame gets dirty with a musician in the foreground. And try to make sure and have a clearly noticeable higher number of these highly dynamic shots right at the climax. And try and find the top five most dynamic shots and also add them to the peak of the climax.

Hey,

"Fair suck of the sav!" is oldschool Aussie slang, for what a seppo would say "cool".

Skite is old school aussie slang meaning to "brag"

Where in Oz are you from?

keep up the good work

All the best mate,

Haha, being Australian I find it hard to believe I've never heard of either of those phrases... and I haven't heard of 'seppo' either haha.

I'm in Victoria, nice and cold down here at the moment.

USLatin:
There might be a couple of shots where the focus isn't quite correct, but I'm pretty sure the shot was better than anything else at that particular point in the show - perhaps I can just fake a shot from a different time and throw it in instead. All of the cameras were on auto focus so there shouldn't be a lot of out of focus stuff, perhaps the compression on the Quicktime is affecting the picture quality more than usual.

How would I go about posting a 480p clip? I don't even know where to begin...

"On the bridge you could go even softer with your shot selection" I think you make a good point, this was one thing I haven't really addressed properly for this first track, but I will for the remaining tracks (there are 9 more I think), and I will of course fix this one up. The cutting has gotta match the flow of the music. I fixed up a few bits and pieces that was in the cut before this, particularly towards the end I had a lot of really nice shots that I wanted to use, and ended up cutting them way too quickly when the song had slowed down/finished, which obviously did not work at all. I will take greater care of this in future!

Yes, in Premiere Pro 2.0 I've been using the multi-camera system, but I've been attacking it like this:

- only cut one song at a time
- take my best 4 cameras (multi-camera doesn't let you do more than 4), do a quick multi-camera cut and use it as a basis
- go through each camera individually, select the best parts that I MUST use
- lay these parts over the multi-camera cut, and just insert/edit them accordingly

Thanks a lot for the feedback and I'm glad you really enjoyed the clip :)

Anyone else got any feedback? I want to know if this style is correct before I continue editing the other tracks, I want to try and nail it for one song before I move onto the rest. The more feedback the better!

I want to see the new cut

And if you have some focus jumps where it goes out and back in thry those on for size in the peak of the song

USLatin I would love to show a new cut but right now I've had to hold off on further editing of this project as I'm drawing near the end of my uni semester and need to focus on school projects. It sucks, but what am I gonna do? I'll be able to start cutting this again in about a months time, which I look very much forward to!
