Live Event Recording

I may be picking up a job editing mixed martial arts event dvd's. Currently the vide is being switched for a cc signal for the arena. It is simultaneously being output to a stand alone dvd recorder. The only problem is that the event is over four hours long and the resulting dvd loks like a$$. I would like to just record the output of the switcher, but what to record to is my dilemma. I have looked at the Archos recorders and the would provide plenty of recording time, but ony record 640x480, not 720x480. Anyone have any other suggestions?

my thought would be that whatever you decide to record to, have two. split the signal so you can begin recording on one, just before ending the recording the other. this way you have a bit of overlap and don't lose a frame.

With a 184min (3hour) DVCAM tape, you can record 4.5hours in DV mode.

Get a full size DVCAM deck and some 184min DVCAM tapes and you will be set.

heh, i have used that deck before, i think the one i used had the front panel broken off :-/

Yeah, that's the only problem with the DSR-11.

For some reason it was designed so that you could take one of the front covers off. The result is that if you arn't carefull, you could inadvertantly take it off. Not a huge issue (as it's no operationally significant) but a bit of a pain sometimes.

- Mikko ... fixed a DSR-11 door in 2 mintues with a little piece of wire.
