Hey all,

I shot this a while back and figured that since i was bored(and need a break from all the scifi shorts) I'd post it. Its one song taken from a half hour live video I did. There are 3 cams....a dvx and 2 crappy mini dvs. I ran the DVX on the crane, and a friend of the band ran the handheld cam(he didnt know exactly what he was doin). Let me know what you think, I hope the switch between cams is although noticable...not to distracting. And I hope you like the overall flow and editing. It was kinda a hurredly done thing because Im not getting paid for it and I ended up shooting this band at the show when I didnt plan on it (was there for another band), I was able to move the crane up closer for this band tho so it came out better than the other 2 I shot.

Well anyways, let me know what you think, this is my first attempt at shooting any sort of live event so its naturally kinda rough(and I couldnt run the handheld and the crane at the same time haha). And although I dont really plan on doing these kinds of shoots too much, I'd like to learn from my mistakes.

EDIT: funny story: I got the sound/light guy at the place angry at me because of the lighting I added to make the video look better(which I think it helped alot). Its funny because before I shot anything, the staff was really helpfull in showing me where to plug in the lights and said theyd be no problem....but o well

very nicely done for what you shot. Well edited, but sound was worse than lousy. :)

hah yea...sound was not that great at all. I tried using a boom mic to record sound and that came out HORRIBLE because it was way too loud, so I ended up using the sound off of my dvx. It wasnt too great to begin with as it was really loud and in a roller rink. Any suggestions on how to get better sound quality? Although this is practically what it sounded like when you were there too :(.

Pictures look good. You definitely needed that lighting. You'll never get any good sound with a mic, you'd need to take the sound from the board (but even that may not be good). I know it can be cheesy, but what if you take the recorded version of the song and match it up?

i have a perfect solution, and i do it with my band

i imagine there was a PA system for the concert ( not all coming straight from their amps )

mic one of the speakers with a dynamic mic, shure sm57 would do the trick.

Man, unless they were playing to a metronome, that could be an extremely diffiult task to achieve.

It's actually not as hard as you'd think. Granted it'll never be perfect, but if you shoot it right and take some time to match it up, it comes out good and doesn't sound like poop. Micing the PA works but it can be extremely limiting if you don't have a wireless system. Especially with all those people around to trip.

I tried dropping in the recorded version for one song but it didnt work even though they play to a click track. The words never quite lined up. Its ok though I'm not planning on doing this all that much and they didnt pay me for this so I'm not gunna sweat it
