Live Capture w/FCP - Timecode(?), P2 work-around?

As some of you may have seen, I've been peppering this forum with techical questions about live capture procedure that I can't seem to find answers for in the manuals and material that I have. I have Barry Green's book, the manual, and much information from the boards. My system for live/direct capture is HVX/1394/MacBookPro/FCP 5.0/HDD.

During my tests over the weekend, I discovered that the HVX sends a video stream down the 1394 cable even when the camera is in 'pause' mode. Therefore, the camera doesn't actually have to be in 'record' mode to capture.

If I have the camera record during capture, I need to find a way to work around the P2 card system, as when they fill up, the camera stops recording. I'm shooting in 720/24p so the loop function is disabled.

This situation created these questions:

1. If the camera is not recording during live capture, how is timecode generated and assigned (my term) to the clips?

2. Is the signal in 'pause' mode a full resolution signal?

3. How can I tell the camera to NOT record to the P2 cards during live capture?

As always, I'm very grateful for any advice.

I use live capture for my stuff with the cam in "pause" . The footage is full resolution. I have no idea on the timecode issue but with the cam in 'free run' mode I'd imagine it sends the timecode down the line.

The camera won't record to P2 during live capture unless you hit the record button, so no worries there.

I'd assume that your NLE (FCP) would stamp the file with a timecode since it's actually doing the recording.
