Live capture to FCP not working.

I am having a problem with live capture. I am set up with the latest version of FCP 5.0.4 on a G5 and can't get the capture to work.

Camera is set to "Tape" rather than "P2" since no video seems to come out of the firewire port in "P2" mode. Camera is set for 480i/60i DVCPro50.

I get a picture to the capture now window. In fact, I can start a capture now record going but it will bail as if asking to VTR control. The device control is set to "Non-Controllable Device" and Capture/Input set to DV50 NTSC 48K.

When I hit capture now it will start for a couple of seconds and then display this error message:

"Capture encountered a problem reading the data on your source tape. This could be due to a problem with the tape. Capture has been aborted and your clip has been saved."

Sure enough, a couple of seconds of the clip is indeed saved and has the correct properties for DVCPro50.

I can record no problem playing back from a P2 card over firewire, just live capture is problematic.

Is there a way to enable the firewire output when P2 recording is enabled?

Thanks for any info.

Won't work, if you have the switch on "tape" mode then the only format it sends is DV. Doesn't matter what you set the menus to, "tape" mode = DV. So if you tell FCP to capture DV50, you have an incompatibility right there.

You have to set it to P2 mode instead. And yes, all video comes out the firewire port when in P2 mode, unless you're shooting 720pN modes.
