Live Capture In Avid Xpress Pro on PC?

Its my understanding that Avid Xpress Pro will support live capture in HD, has anyone been able to successfully pull this off on a PC? I cant figure out if I should be using the firewire cable or the USB cable, the usb cable only seems to work with the P2 card manager, and when I use the firewire cable, windows detects the camera but it doesnt detect the input stream in Avid. I have also tried capturing with firewire using Cineform in Premiere 2 pro. I realize that DVRack is the ideal choice for live capture but im trying to avoid having to buy a $500 software program if I can make it work through one of the NLE's I own. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

You would need to use Firewire for live capture.

If you are trying to capture the native modes (like 24pn) it won't work though. Firewire can't carry the native modes.

It will carry anything else though.

You might browse through the manual for instructions on setting up the HVX for live capture.

I couldnt find anything in the manual on live capture, am i missing it? do you know what page its on?

Thanks again for help!

On the camera, just make sure that the camera is set to IEEE mode and that you are using a non-native record mode. The rest is up to Avid, which I can't help you with.

I dont understand which modes are native or what native means in that context. Could someone clue me in a little :)

Thanks again for any help

If you are shooting in 720 mode, and it says 24pn, then you are trying to record a native mode. You can record progressive (p) progressive advanced (pa), through firewire. You can't record pn via firewire live capture.

Any recording mode that has PN at the end is native, meaning it does not include the duplicate frames. Everything else in non-native.
