Greetings fellow DVXusers...
Well, since I found this great website which convinced me of the power of the DVX, I bought one and made my first film titled 'Little Thumb' which I finally completed this spring. I shot it with the Anamorphic Lens (for those who are interested) and for the most part, it did a good job. I am shooting another documentary this August in Africa where I determined that I no longer want to use it because close-ups are just too impossible. So I will use the stretch mode instead.
Anyway, I thought since I enjoy seeing and supporting fellow DVX users, I thought I would post some clips up here as well as a link to my DVD which is on sale on Filmbaby.com.
One of the great posts I read on DVXuser was one person asking for any advise as they were to embark on their first film. Someone wisely responded saying that do something that you feel deeply about, something that is incredibly personable, so you will make sure its the best you can make it. If you pull that off successfully, then you have a strong chance to become a good filmmaker. I'm sure they phrased it much better than that, but I took that to heart and made my first film about my family. Here is a summary of the film.
The idea that even the most ordinary person can have an extraordinary impression on others is the central theme of Chad Kremer's first film Little Thumb. This documentary looks at the life of Frank Wybenga, a Dutch immigrant who in the mid 1950's escaped his dark past at a Nazi concentration camp by moving to the United States with his wife and infant son. In 2006, seven years after his death, Frank's eldest son and grandson journey back to the Netherlands to honor Frank's memory by revisiting his past, all while trying to bring some closure to their own.
The film got accepted and was showcased at the Waterfront Film Festival in Saugatuck, Michigan this past June (the first festival I submitted to) and so far I am hoping to get in more.
Any feedback would be great.
