little product test footage...

Rich Lee

I shoot Pirates.
i had a simple idea for a little product ad or something like that. so i used my canon 20d as the product and shot it with the DVX.

its just for kicks really, i might go in and tweak a few things...but its more of a test then anything else...also was just screwing around with the whole film projector/scratched/grain thing...i used a collection of stock footage called film clutter for the film effects...its loaded with flares/scratched/grain/light leaks/notes...stuff like that...i painted the boarders and sprockets and all that. hand animated the scrolling frame in AE.

PEACE!

Thats pretty good, Rich. I'm still liking the organic look of bad film. It looks like the film was dragged through a quarry before the showing and then the projectionist gets attacked by an enraged pack of chimpanzees. Missing that burning frame effect, though. I want to see the film stop and the frame get toasted a few times. :cheesy:

Damn Rich that looks awsome the use of the film is alot of fun and it is eye catching. Make me want to go buy the camera. Just one question where did you get the footage of the film? I've been looking for some of that for awhile now.

blah blah blah blah. blah blah, blah - blah blah... blah blah blah? blah! :D

In other words awesome :)

yes been looking too also which progam did you use to edit?

Very Cool Rich. Hey BTW, my wife's been pretty bummed lately because of some family problems so last night I loaded up your R&D clip. She really got a good laugh from it.

Thanks!

Looks good. The diagonal scratches (e.g. around 11sec) and the sharp vertical ones (around 23sec) stuck out a little too much. Otherwise, the rest of it had the old film effect look.

Cool.

thats very cool man

just watched it a few hundred times...

loved the AE stuff, and man it really does look convincingly old...still awaiting for your next masterpiece!!

cool in the gang. thanks for checkin it out everyone.

imgentertainment - thanks. we bought the stock footage for a project. you can get it from artbeats.com.

logicfilms - its all one shot, that i time remaped in after effects, to make it go faster or slower. so the "editing" was done in AE.

Sirius_Doggy - cool man, glad we could help!...glad it made her feel a bit better.

i might tidy it up a bit to finish it off.

peace!

That was great, but it seems more like an ad for a soft drink or shoes or something than a professional dSLR. Gotta love the song, too. Very nice, as always.

On a random note...Guess who just ordered a Digital Rebel XT? (I'm too poor for the 20d).

Hey Rich...came across your website several months back and you have some serious skills. This piece looks great, you can tell you have a unique eye and a slick style in your editing...I can really appreciate it.

I would love to know how you get such a clean smooth movement on your titles moving around the camera. I've been curious to know how people are doing this effect...is it motion tracking plugin or effect???

BLUESPIDER- yeah dude, you gots to keep dat shite up yo

Policar- i kinda ment for it to be generic....which is why i used blah blah blah blah...know what i mean? like "your product here" sorta...could be anything...a sneaker would be cool...or a cell phone or maybe even like an ad for starbucks or whatever...

dude post some pic when you get your XT! congrats and have fun!

eppdidit-thanks. for the titles i used the motion tracker in AE to stick the text to the camera. for the text moving around the camera at the end, i turned the text into 3d and hand animated the rotation of it around the camera. its not perfect, if you saw it without the crazy shaky film effects you would see the funkiness...but because the frame is so crazy it gets hidden. but if it wasnt so crazy. you could either hand animate/track the text to the camera in AE. or, use 3d tracking software like boujou to track the camera movement, then bring that data into a 3d package like xsi/3dmax/maya and add real 3d text that way. that like what they did for the panic room titles as well as a Kanya West directed common video that is out now. hmm..hope that makes sense...

thanks for checking it out again ya'all!

peace!

Rich, that is awesome. I don't really get how you did the jittery parts where you see two frames at once like the film is messing up or whatever, its really cool. I went to your site, you're work is incredible...I noticed that you sculpt, me too. I wish you would teach me everything you know.

Peace,
peter

Mr. Blonde, I love the d70 and I think it feels better in your hands than the xt, but the digital rebel has more resolution, less noise, better dynamic range (I think, it's a close call), and it was a lot cheaper for me. Plus I often a regular non-digital rebel and I love it and the lens compatibility thing is nice.

Rich, I'll post pics as soon as I get it (knowing me, I'll probably destroy the shutter in a week from non-stop use) but I'm an awful, awful photographer.

Oh please.... Nikon vs. Canon... Watch any major sporting event or news conference and see how many photogs have those sweet white Canon "L" lenses.
Besides the "L" series lenses, all of Canon's lenses are designed to work with 35mm film cameras (except for a couple designed for the Rebel,20d) which has a much higher resolution than any digital camera and there hasn't been any complaints from the film guys. For every review for one camera there are reviews the other way...
It really comes down to a personal choice. I've used a D70 and liked it. I own a 20D and love it.
If you already own a Nikon or Canon and already have lenses, then go with that brand. They are both great cameras.
