Little Help - Interesting Video Format

Alright all, so I'm not so sure that Cinematography is exactly the right area for this--but moderators--feel free to move.

I am in the middle of a project and was given some source footage by a client in a very odd format. It looks almost like reel-to-reel audio tape, but the client gave it to me and I will need a conversion for my NLE. I've included pictures. If anyone has any idea what this is and how and if I can digitize it--please speak up!

Right, looks like audio tape to me. Unless they spooled some 8 or 16mm film onto one of those because the reel was handy... but not likely.

Yeah, I'm 99% sure that's audio tape.

That's audio tape. You'll need a reel to reel audio tape deck to play it.

my that takes me back, yes its audio reel to reel tape, due to the size of the reel it was probably recorded on a small portable unit.

The first video project I did was on reel-to-reel.

Of course, that was 1975 (? 1977? Loooong time ago, anyway.)

Black and white. We rented cameras, decks, and mixers from some place in NYC and did a TV show.
