Litepanels Gemini 2×1 RGB-WW soft panel

Thanks PD. I just emailed Adorama and asked them to set-up a replacement.

Enjoy it. Wish I had the budget this year for one but if I even make enough to buy gear, it'll be the Canon 100-400 4.5-5.6 IS II, I kind of fell in love with a few of the borrowed ones we have been shooting with and when they go back, I always forget I don't have it and want to go shoot things that need it. CN-e 18-80 T4.4 would be very handy for a lot of client shooting too!

I had no intentions of buying it until the group buy came up and it just seemed like a deal that was too good to pass up.

The 100-400 v.2 is a great lens for stills and video. I picked one up about two years ago when I had a big discount from Canon at the Canon Store for taking part in a survey(and the lens was on a rebate to begin with). I used it recently on a college baseball feature a few months ago. 17-120 for all of the handheld and up-close stuff and the 100-400(plus center punch/F55) for most of the game stuff.

I received my Gemini from the group buy on Thursday and of course, promptly broke it out and started playing with it. So far, overall, I like it. But I do have an issue and I want to see if anyone else is experiencing this or if I need to send it back. The LEFT encoder knob is "jumpy" when making adjustments. Say you're scrolling through trying to dial in a specific hue in HSi mode and while turing it to the right, it will jump and start going back down(as if it were being turned to the left), then start going back to the right again. And it does this in the opposite direction, as well. It also jumps forward(or backwards depending on direction turned) several units, even when turning it very slowly(I know they are speed sensitive). It does it in all "modes". The CENTER and RIGHT encoder knobs appear to operate correctly. The light is not unusable, by any means, but it's very annoying, especially in GEL mode, where you can "skip" over a lot of gels and not even realize it.

Just wanted to see if this is something that others were experiencing or a known issue, before I contact Adorama on Monday(they are the ones who actually contacted me to handle the transaction). I haven't registered the light yet, and if this is an issue specific to my copy of the light, I will just ask them to swap it for another unit. I don't play warranty games when something comes out of the box with an issue on day one.

*EDIT*. I am running the latest firmware version. It exhibited the issue on both the original shipping firmware(without the new effects modes) and the newest version(with the new effects modes) that I loaded Thursday evening.

Unfortunately, I am having the exact same problem. Received my light on Friday. Updated the firmware. Center and Right knobs are fine. Left knob exhibits same issue as you stated. Barely usable. My light also shipped in the original box and wasn't double boxed as I was told it would be. Arrived fairly beaten up. Trying to set up an exchange now.

Mine was single boxed, as well, which I thought was strange. Anything like that, that I get from any other vendor comes at least double boxed. My box wasn't overly beaten up, but there were some dents. The light itself and internal packing all seemed fine.

A few month ago I did a shoot following a group of people touring at one of the major shippers HQ's and after seeing some of the automated areas where the packages go through(we couldn't shoot in there, but could go in) and watching them go through, I make sure I pack everything I ship WELL. It's honestly a wonder that everything we get isn't broken to pieces. I don't know how many boxes I saw come down the ramps and get crushed by other boxes and then some of them bust open spilling their contents out.

Adorama responded promptly to the email I sent yesterday(Sun) and I woke up today to a link for the return shipping label and an apology from the rep I dealt with. Mine is on it's way back, as we speak and then a replacement will be on it's way out once they receive it. I was hoping to use it on a shoot next week and not sure if the replacement will be here in time. They did say I could "re-purchase" at the group buy price and they could send another out asap and when they receive the original unit, it will be refunded and cancel out the new one.

I also looked at the original thread over on REDUser and some people are having some other issues, too. I saw a few people who said they received lights without power cords.

Looks like there are more people today on RedUser that are involved in the group buy reporting the same left rotary dial issue.

I have info on how to solve the dial issue. Please PM me if you or anyone you know is having trouble with this.

Thanks!

Tom Coughlan, the technical service manager, called me yesterday, then sent me a link to a new firmware version* and luckily, it appears to have fixed the problem with my Gemini.

*I don't think this firmware is a public release and must be obtained from Vitec, if needed.
